Default Online Poker - End of an Era !!

I've just read the final post of "Joejim's" again, id like to think and hope he's getting his life back together again.
It has also made me realise how much time i waste on a PC playing online poker, when i could be back where i was playing live at the casino's and winning !!
I once wrote about poker "if your not enjoying it, your not doing it right" !! And it's not that i don't enjoy it online, it's the things that are missing from the online game, the atmosphere, the buzz, the laughs with friends at the tables.
One of the reasons i stopped playing live was the death of my best mate (Rod Boland) in 2001 and it was at that time i brought my first PC and started playing online. Well as some of you know it becomes very addictive and as "JoeJim" said, "takes over your life" !!!!
So, I'm pulling the plugs on all online poker sites now (except Ladbrokes) they'll go in November, and going back to live poker at Luton and 'The Vic' London, and some times down to Bournemouth's "Gala"..
The thing about poker is we all get bad-beats but online some of it is hard to take and when your out of a tournament it's easy to find another one starting in 5 minutes, it's like a merry-go-round. However with live events it's a night out, the getting ready, the travel, the adrenaline rush as they call all players to take their seats and above all meeting old friends again.
This game of poker is a wonderful game that in my opinion has been lost with the Internet game . Ultimately it has taken me all this time to realise what ive been missing, it wont be the same as the old days, things never are but having just watched a video of my ol' mate "Hamish Shah" winning "Late Night Poker Final"...It's time for a reality check and get off my ass and get back to the real tables...
I'll still have time for you guys here and will still write a few jokes and stories about 'Shane' Valerie, Ernesto and Amy but leave me out of any online poker games......... glk ..Barry (benny)

What you have said above about online poker spreads across all aspects of todays modern society. Nobody seems to want to go and do things in the "real world" if they can do it online. Nobody rings now they send a text message instead and yet it takes longer to do it than it does to call, unless you are like my kids that dont need to look at the phone.
Having never played competitive poker, I was fairly good at rugby in my earlier days though to have an idea of what you are talking about with the adrenalin rush, I would have thought that if you can get out and play face to face then it must be better
than playing against someone you cant see. Good luck mate, go get em

Default How right you are...

Nowdays you dont even have to go out of the house for days on end if you dont want too...

What with the internet we can now order all our food, fags ,papers etc on line..and get them delivered to our door......we can place bets on the internet and even watch all the races live.......Chat to all our mates on MSN or by phone on skype.......pay bills, check bank accounts, get loans and morgages and even meet your future wife..

So all this does is make us lazy and we dont get motivated anymore....want a game of poker? switch on the net and pick from hundreds of sites offering all the games and some cash back too....so who needs to get dressed have a shower use up your petrol and hike all the way down to the casino to play poker and then drive maybe a couple of hours back after going out on the bubble?.....This is the new world we live in and if we all keep doing what the experts want us too were all going to end up not living a life at all...

I think its a great idea to start making the effort to get out and about and to play live again.....I bet those days playing live were the ones you look back on with fond memories and now its time for some new memories to look back on.....

Good luck m8...

Default Life Balance

It’s a question of life balance, back in the 80s and 90s I would have “out” of the house at least 6 nights out of the week. When you discover online poker it is like a drug and extremely addictive and the nights out quickly reduce. My mates now have to book weeks in advance for me to go out and then if I am feeling good about my poker I wont show. I have been over the past few months been thinking like Joejim and now you Benny should I give up online poker. It was a good source of income but now it is getting increasingly hard to show a profit. I don’t think I am ready or able to stop playing online yet but over the next few months I am going to try and reset my life balance and try and spend time with real people in the real world.

Benny I hope you find the “Buzz” you once had and on a selfish note I hope you continue to post your “live” horse info.

Benny i know exactly what you mean i rarely play online now maybe 1 or 2 games a week but all the adrenalin comes from playing live think i've been playing live for a few years now but i still get butterflies when i walk in and look around to see who i've got to beat to win my best memorys are of course from playing live where as online if you win a tournament or sit and go you just say great where's the next one there's nothing like cashing live and walking over to get your money or cheque and of how proud you feel to of achieved what you have just done
keep us posted mate where and when you are playing and i'll do my utmost to get down wherever and come and join you for a game
all the best mate

Wink

Cheers guys and gals, yes we all know what online poker can do it eats your time and before you know it the weeks-months have flown bye !
Oh yes Herbie I'll still be here for the racing (Live Wires) and sport.
It's good to hear you guys have seen the light and get out playing golf and live poker and racing...
I think the reality of online poker is that, 'there is no reality' Because i could beat the game live in tournament and cash, i thought it would be easy online but there are so many variables that have nothing to do with the Live game at all
Anyways i might be able to get a few of us to the DTD(dusk till dawn) in Nottingham in September. Ive been invited as a member of UPL(poker) and previous winner of the Oxford Cup to this years event. I know "bad-beat" were sponsoring UPL and some of their players may be there plus some top guests...It's a 20pound re-buy event with sponsorship guarantee but i don't have all the details yet so I'll post more as soon as i know ! If your interested leave a post below, i managed to get 4 last year in Oxford but this will sell out, so "NO" promises yet ! benny
