Default Saturdays Premier League round-up (22nd Sep)

Premier League round-up:
Match reports from Saturday as Liverpool go top and Man City batter Cardiff (September 22nd 2018)

Liverpool made it six wins out of six, Manchester City hit five to batter Cardiff while Wolves held Man Utd to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Premier League scores

Fulham 1 - 1 Watford - Full Report
Burnley 4 - 0 Bournemouth
Cardiff 0 - 5 Manchester City
Crystal Palace 0 - 0 Newcastle
Leicester City 3 - 1 Huddersfield
Liverpool 3 - 0 Southampton
Manchester United 1 - 1 Wolves
Brighton 1- 2 Tottenham

Manchester United 1 - 1 Wolves

Promoted Wolves proved they truly belong in the Premier League with a superb performance at Old Trafford as they more than earned their point, and could even have had more.

Fred put United ahead with his first goal for the club but Joao Moutinho grabbed a deserved equaliser eight minutes into the second half as Nuno Espirito Santo's side continued to attack.

De Gea subsequently made saves to deny Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves and substitute Adama Traore, while at the other end, Rui Patricio tipped over Lingard's strike and dealt with a Fellaini header.

Liverpool 3 - 0 Southampton

Liverpool moved back to the top of the Premier League table with a comfortable victory over Southampton at Anfield where all the damage was done in the opening 45 minutes.

A Wesley Hoedt own goal gave Jurgen Klopp's men the lead after just 10 minutes before Joel Matip, playing ahead of Joe Gomez at centre-half, headed in a second after 21 minutes.

Mohamed Salah scored his third of the season on the stroke of half-time as he followed up Xherdan Shaqiri's excellent free kick that smacked the bar to extend Liverpool's perfect start to the season to seven straight wins.

Cardiff 0 - 5 Manchester City

Sergio Aguero marked his 300th appearance for Manchester City with his 205th goal as he gave the visitors the lead after Cardiff had stood firm for half an hour.

Bernardo Silva quickly doubled the lead for Pep Guardiola's side, who put the game to bed just before half-time through Ilkay Gundogan.

Riyad Mahrez then added two goals in the second half as City kept up their pursuit of Liverpool at the top of the table by remaining two points behind them in second.

Burnley 4 - 0 Bournemouth

If Sean Dyche was ever under pressure, he's not now after his side earned a first Premier League victory of the season with an emphatic win over Bournemouth at Turf Moor.

Matej Vydra got the breakthrough six minutes before half-time but there was still time for the excellent Aaron Lennon to double the home side's advantage just before the interval.

2-0 is how it stayed until the final ten minutes when Ashley Barnes struck twice as the Cherries pushed to try and get into the game to ensure the Clarets got off the mark in some style.

Leicester City 3 - 1 Huddersfield

The Terriers grabbed an early lead at The King Power but Zanka's opener was canceled out by Kelechi Iheanacho just before the 20-minute mark.

Claude Puel looks to have some player on his hands with James Maddison, and it was the young England hope that put the Foxes ahead on 66 minutes.

Jamie Vardy added a fine third goal 15 minutes from time to leave Huddersfield bottom of the table.

Crystal Palace 0 - 0 Newcastle

Newcastle have an awful record in London so will probably be happy enough to get away from another trip to the capital with a point even though it sees them still without a win this season.

Palace dominated possession but could not turn that into enouh clear-cut chances against Rafa Benitez's side - who remain in the bottom three.
