I wouldn't copy your selections from a buffet table, let alone gambling

Right here goes...

This is the one major that usually seems to be won by a player in the top ten of the betting market...

Augusta is a course like no other and a debutant has never won here so experience is crucial.

Players who hit the ball a long way have a big advantage here and since 2002 only three players outside the top 30 in driving distance in that year have won ...

Going in with a 8 iron compared to a 6 iron makes a lot of difference on these sloping quick greens which have run offs that can take you 50 yards away from where you pitched.

Left handers usually do well here to and the odd big priced one has crept into the top 6 over the years and of course mr lefty himself Phil Mickelson has won this more then once.

So who do i think will be this years winner or a decent place chance?

Well even though it goes against what i have said i just dont think there is value in the top 5 or 6 in the betting so will look for some bigger priced value.

HEDEKI MATSUYAMA @ 45/1

Won for me earlier in the year when maybe getting a bit lucky after Fowlers blow up on the 17th but stuck in there well on the Sunday and took his chance with a couple of crucial puts late on.

A decent ball striker and solid putter who has done well here in the last couple of years could be the surprised package.

MARC LEISHMAN @ 66/1

Although not a prolific winner on the tour has done well over the last couple of seasons including losing in the 3 way playoff at last years British Open.

Hits it long and straight and if his short game holds up he should give us a decent E/W run for those betting with 7 places.

KEVIN KISNER @ 140/1

Has a great season last year with a couple of decent wins on the US tour and another who hits it long.

Has played well in the last three majors in America and i feel for an E/W runner he is a price worth taking.

LEE WESTWOOD @ 12/1 TOP ENGLISHMAN

What i hear you cry ....Yes he hasnt broken par since Chelsea last won a trophy and he is also going through a messy divorce (arn't they all when your shelling out )

But this is his course and with only 6 to beat including two making their first appearances here i just think this is a decent price and worth a few quid.

I will leave it at that for now but will be backing a couple more after the first round so look out for those selections on Friday ...
