Derby are on telly tomorrow night (hopefully not wearing our god awful new away kit - traditional white n black will be just fine please) away at Bristol City.
I am hoping beyond that an ET win over mighty Lincoln City (:eek!:) will inspire us to greater things - although we did tear them a new a$$hole in the first half but just couldnt stick one away. Bristol City tough at home though and were one game away from being our replacements in the Prem - I would take a draw with a good performance - a scrappy win even better though. Anything but a desperate defeat a la last week. |
Im off racing tomorrow...but will be back to watch the Rams
Hopefully it doesnt clash with the X FACTOR.... |
the mighty wolves have sheff weds today at fortress molineux i can't see past a wolves win here maybe 2-0 or 2-1 o:D:brains
cov have a tough game away at barnsley personally think a draw there for cov would be a very good result for them :scribe: forest away to swansea i think this will be a forest win (or should be ):brains: derby away to bristol city on paper i think derby should win comfortably but as they are at the moment i'd favour the draw 8-P game of the weekend in championship i think is southampton v birmingham this will be a very tough game for both and should be a few goals in it |
Saturdays games...
COVENTRY ... go top with a good away win. Wolves reject (shrewd business by Mcarthey..o:D) Eastwood scores again.....Some good transfer dealings this summer are already paying off for the Sky Blues.
WOLVES... who are always solid at home thrashed Sheff Wed 4-1 to make that two unbeaten so far this season and look a threat to the more fancied teams for promotion this season if they can win a few away games. IPSWICH ... manage to win away at Burnley 3-0...very good for the Tractor Boys seeings they only managed one away win all last season. The game was held up for nearly an hour after one of the pre match parachutists landed on the roof of the away end......8-P DERBY ... one of the pre season favorites to go up got their first point of the season away at Bristol City after slipping up at home last week to the Doncaster Belles. Derby were lucky not to be dead and buried in the first half in what Paul Jewell discribed as a shocking performance. A half time roasting (thats a dressing room one and not a hotel one) from the manager seemed to do the trick and Derby played a lot better second half to escape Ashton Gate with a point. FOREST ... after a good start at home last week went to fellow promoted team Swansea and a comedy of errors gave Swansea the lead when the ball came back off the post only to hit the goalkeepers head and rebound back into the net. Forest levelled and Ernshaw missed a couple of good chances before Swansea scored from the spot..all be it a rebound off the goal keepers save. A cracking last goal sealed the points for the Swans and left Forest still looking for their first win. BURNLEY ... who as we know lost 3-0 at home to Ipswich are already bottom and i feel if things dont improve quickly they could be fighting a relegation battle even at this early stage of the season. |
Quote:
Second half though was much more like it. We played with heart, put our foot in, passed and moved with confidence and looked quite menacing going forward. We deserved to win the second half and gain a point - it would have been harsh on Bristol City if we had won it, though Villa's 89th minute header was superb and deserved to go in. Still need to lose Savage and Claude Davis - McEveley has still got a touch like a mule and Hulse didnt do that much, though could be effective once he finds his rhythm. But the rest, second half, showed promise, and if we can keep that going and start dominating teams as we really should do, I saw enough there that makes me think we could live up to early season expectation. |
In case you've not seen it!!! Takes a while to warm up !!!

Haha...the funny thing is..
My sister who is an Ipswich fan said the game was held up for 45 mins because the announced it wasnt safe and they couldnt get the fire engines through because of parked cars.....well they read out the registration numbers of the cars they wanted moved.....and after 40 mins still the bloke was on the roof so they decided to kick off anyway and they had to get him down from the rear of the stand while the match was on.....o:D

Saturdays matches...
Well all our teams are playing tomorrow..
Ipswich entertain Wolves at Portman Road and after victory away at Burnley last week the tractor boys will be looking for another 3 points against one of their rivals for promotion. Wolves unbeaten so far this season are coming off a good home win last time...Tonys prediction....1-1 League leaders Coventry are at home to promotion hopefuls Bristol City. Coventry started with two wins and new signing Eastwood will be hoping to net again after a good start. City who should have buried Derby in the first half at Ashton gate last Saturday will be hoping to bounce back here with a win...Tonys prediction....1-3 Forest will need to bounce back from a defeat at Swansea and a home game against Watford might not be ideal. The hornets are looking like a team who will challenge for automatic promotion this season after two good results...Tonys prediction...0-2 Derby after a shocking performance on the first day finally found the form everyone was expecting them to show in the second half against Bristol City. If they can continue playing that way they will be right there come May. Southampton are a team in freefall and could easily slip a division lower if they dont start getting their act together. Not a great match for a team that is playing with no confidence...Tonys prediction...3-0 Crystal Palace are another team who should be pressing for promotion and play hosts to bottom club Burnley. The Eagles will be looking for three points here for sure. Burnley have started like a team in disaray and will need to register points very soon. A difficult game for them to start...Tonys prediction...4-1 |
looooooool Tony i'll give ya 10-1 derby don't win 3-0 o:D
|
Looooool, Lee they should be bankers in the footie bets tomorrow......what do u think of my predictions?
|
Not the best of days....
for some of our teams...
DERBY 0 SOUTHAMPTON 1 IPSWICH 0 WOLVES 2 PALACE 0 BURNLEY 0 FOREST 3 WATFORD 2 COVENTRY 0 BRISTOL CITY 2 Will have a in depth look at these games tomorrow... |
Saturday 23rd August games
WOLVES..go second with a very good victory at promotion rivals Ipswich. A goal in each half gave Wolves a fairly easy win and in this sort of form an automatic spot must be their aim. Wolves entertain Forest next weekend with The Tractor boys going to Watford for a late kick off on Sky. COVENTRY..went into their home game with Bristol City as leaders and ended the day down in 8th due to a 3-0 drubbing. Bristol City looking like they too will be challenging again this season and Coventry will be looking to put this shambolic showing behind them when they go to newly promoted Doncaster next week. FOREST..Suprised many (me included) by taking all three points at home to Watford. Forest looked good going forward and some nice crisp passing was rewarded when Earnshaw scored their second in a 3-2 classic at The City ground. Earnshaw a summer buy fron neighbours Derby is starting to look more like the Earnshaw who scored plenty in his Cardiff days. Nathen Tyson came on as sub afer being out with a hamstring injury to snatch all three points with a tap in after Earnshaws freekick has come back off the post. Forest will be fully tested next week when they visit highflying Wolves.. DERBY...another shocking performance going down 1-0 at home to a Southampton side who before this game had failed to register any points. After their spirited comeback in the second half last weekend Derby failed to build on that and they are already looking like a club in turmoil. Their decision to get rid of Earnshaw is not looing a good one as they look toothless up front. Manager Jewell will have to go to the board to buy some new players if Derby are going to get anywhere near the promotion chasing clubs..Derby travel to Barnsley next weekend and only a win will be good enough against the bottom team. BURNLEY..Bottom at the start of the day finally got their first point of the season at Palace. Maybe it was two points lost though as Palace played the last 25 mins with only nine men.Burnley look like another team that needs to find someone to put the ball in the net as they missed a bundle of chance to have this game won. Next weekend they entertain Plymouth at Turf Moor in what looks like a six pointer even at this early stage of the season. |

Cherries take Championship
Cherries take Championship crown . :news: (May 2 2015)
A review of the final day of the Sky Bet Championship season as Bournemouth's win over Charlton saw them claim the title.  A dramatic final day in the Sky Bet Championship saw Bournemouth crowned champions and Brentford earn a play-off place. The title looked destined for Watford, who prior to kick-off held a one-point lead at the top of the table, as they went into stoppage time 1-0 up at Vicarage Road against Sheffield Wednesday. But, just as the Owls had pooped Bournemouth's promotion party last month with a late equalising goal, they did so again - but on a much grander scale. Atdhe Nuhiu's shot looped agonisingly over Heurelho Gomes to cancel out Matej Vydra's opening goal for Watford and it finished 1-1. Bournemouth were already two goals ahead at Charlton by the time Vydra scored, with Matt Ritchie and Harry Arter getting the Cherries off to a flying start in London. As news of Nuhiu's equaliser began to filter through, Ritchie scored his second goal of the game and Eddie Howe's men ended the season in style - as champions - with a 3-0 victory. The race to fill the remaining two play-off places was just as enthralling. Brentford, seventh at the start of the afternoon, eventually finished fifth in the table courtesy of a 3-0 win against relegated Wigan. 1 B'mouth 90 2 Watford 89 3 Norwich 86 4 M'boro 85 5 Brentford 78 6 Ipswich 78 7 Wolves 78 8 Derby 77 9 Blackburn 67 10 Birm'ham 63 11 Cardiff 62 12 Charlton 60 13 Sheff Wed 60 14 N Forest 59 15 Leeds 56 16 Huddsf'ld 54 17 Fulham 52 18 Bolton 51 19 Reading 50 20 Brighton 47 21 Rotherham 43 22 Millwall 41 23 Wigan 39 24 Blackpool 25 (last updated 02/05 14:37) Alex Pritchard, Ramallo Jota and Andre Gray were on target, while James Tarkowski could even afford to see his last-minute penalty saved. The Bees, who will play Middlesbrough in the play-offs, replaced Derby in the top six after the Rams capitulated at home to Reading. Steve McClaren's men, beaten at Wembley last season, made an awful start as Kwesi Appiah put the Royals ahead after two minutes. Darren Bent saw his penalty brilliantly saved by Adam Federici just before half-time as Derby were denied a way back into the game. Michael Hector's goal and a late Garath McCleary penalty condemned the Rams to a 3-0 defeat. Ipswich were also beaten but, unlike Derby, managed to hold on to their play-off spot and face a East Anglia showdown with Norwich. Daryl Murphy put Mick McCarthy's team ahead in the second minute but Blackburn turned the match on its head with goals from Jordan Rhodes, Craig Conway and Rudy Gestede. Murphy replied for Ipswich from the penalty spot and a 3-2 loss was enough for the Tractor Boys. Wolves won 4-2 at home to relegated Millwall but it was not enough and they missed out on the play-offs on goal difference. Nouha Dicko's double put the hosts in control and Ethan Ebanks-Landell and Bakary Sako were also on the scoresheet, while Aiden O'Brien and Jamie Philpot pulled goals back for Millwall. It was also 4-2 at Carrow Road, where Norwich defeated Fulham. Bradley Johnson, Nathan Redmond and Graham Dorrans put the Canaries in control. Matt Smith replied for Fulham before Bradley Johnson then scored at either end. Nottingham Forest finished the campaign with another defeat as Joe Ralls and Eoin Doyle scored in Cardiff's 2-1 win at the City Ground. David Marshall was sent off for the Bluebirds before Dexter Blackstock halved Forest's deficit late on. A goal from Robert Tesche, on loan from Forest, saw Birmingham win 1-0 at Bolton, while elsewhere it was goalless between Middlesbrough and Brighton and Leeds and Rotherham, although, true to his word, Millers manager Steve Evans did turn up in his sombrero and beach-wear. It was also 0-0 at Bloomfield Road between Blackpool and Huddersfield, when the match was abandoned at the start of the second half after home fans invaded the pitch and staged a protest against the Oyston family, who own the club. |
Saints teenager joins Wycombe (October 13th 2015)
Saints teenager joins Wycombe (October 13th 2015)
Southampton teenager Jason McCarthy has signed for Sky Bet League 2 high-flyers Wycombe on a one-month loan. Centre-back McCarthy, 19, made his Saints debut as a substitute in the Boxing Day victory over Crystal Palace and captained the club to the Under-21 Premier League Cup last term. "Jason's a very highly-rated defender who's had good experience in the under-21s at Southampton and they feel he's ready to go out and get a taste of what senior football is like at League Two level," Chairboys boss Gareth Ainsworth explained on his club's official website. "Our last two games haven't reached our high standards defensively and he's a new option who adds competition for us, with Anthony Stewart still missing for another couple of months." |
Wanderers for 'Play-Offs'
Wycombe moved into the Sky Bet League 2 play-off places thanks to Garry Thompson's goal in their 1-1 draw with promotion rivals Accrington. :t:
Thompson levelled in the 62nd minute, pouncing on a loose ball in the area and driving it home from 12 yards. This was after Shay McCartan had opened the scoring for fifth-placed Stanley in time added on at the end of the first half. In a first half of few chances, the game came to life when Billy Kee fed McCartan and, with Wycombe appealing for offside, the striker raced into the area and fired the ball into the bottom corner. Stanley, who still hope to secure a top-three place, had chances to increase their lead after the break but Kee was denied by goalkeeper Ryan Allsop before Thompson pounced. The game could have then gone either way, with Allsop denying Sean McConville and Piero Mingoia a Stanley winner while Wycombe's Paul Hayes was kept out by Ross Etheridge at the other end. |

Review of Saturday's Action in the Championship -(Feb 19th 2017)
A review of Saturday's action in the Sky Bet Championship, as Brighton go top again after winning at Barnsley. - :news: - (Feb 19th 2017)
Sam Baldock scored two second-half goals as Brighton won 2-0 at Barnsley to climb back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship. The Seagulls striker broke the deadlock seven minutes after half-time and struck his 10th goal of the season soon after the hour mark to put the visitors in control. Chris Hughton's side had won only one of their previous four league games, but leapfrogged back into top spot, two points clear of overnight leaders Newcastle, who play Aston Villa at St James' Park on Monday night. Leeds lost ground on the top two as they drew 1-1 at Ipswich, who extended their unbeaten league run to four matches. Garry Monk's play-off chasers fell behind to Freddie Sears' first goal for Ipswich since October, but equalised through Stuart Dallas three minutes before half-time. Leeds rode their luck in the second half when David McGoldrick's shot hit the crossbar. Sheffield Wednesday moved level on points with fifth-placed Leeds as a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest secured a fourth straight league victory. Almen Abdi registered his first goal for Wednesday in the first half and Fernando Forestieri put the visitors 2-0 ahead early in the second period. Keiren Westwood saved on-loan Forest striker Ross McCormack's 27th-minute penalty after the Owls keeper had brought down Ben Brereton and Abdi scored the opening goal a minute later. Ben Osborn pulled one back for the home side on the hour mark, but Forest slipped to their third straight defeat. Neil Warnock's Cardiff made it four wins out of their last five league games by thrashing bottom club Rotherham 5-0 at home. Kadeem Harris and Junior Hoilett put Cardiff 2-0 up at half-time before Craig Noone and Kenneth Zohore's double secured the Welsh side's biggest win of the season. Defeat left Rotherham with just one point to show from 17 league games on the road this season. Birmingham manager Gianfranco Zola saw his faltering side go down 4-1 at home to QPR. Matt Smith headed his first goal for QPR midway through the first half and Conor Washington doubled the Londoners' lead early in the second period. Idrissa Sylla's header and Yeni Ngbakoto's late free-kick ensured a miserable afternoon for Zola and although Emilio Nsue netted a stoppage-time consolation, Birmingham have lost five of their last six matches. Burton gave their survival hopes a major boost by halting Norwich's six-game unbeaten run with a 2-1 win at the Pirelli Stadium. The Brewers went ahead through on-loan Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow's first goal for the club midway through the first period. Although Cameron Jerome headed Norwich level, the home side regained the lead through Michael Kightly in the 56th minute. Wigan goalkeeper Matt Gilks helped clinch his side a point from a goalless draw against Preston at the DW Stadium. Gilks saved Jordan Hugill's early penalty after Omar Bogle had fouled Callum Robinson. |
Magpies back top of the table
Brighton 1-2 Newcastle: Magpies back top of the table - :news: (February 28th 2017)
Two late goals secured a 2-1 win for Newcastle at Brighton and a return to the top of the Sky Bet Championship. The Seagulls were leading through Glenn Murray's controversial penalty until a fortunate effort from Mo Diame nine minutes from time hauled Newcastle level. Then with a minute to go, substitute Ayoze Perez secured the victory and lifted the Magpies back above Brighton at the summit. Both these teams are looking over their shoulders with third-placed Huddersfield building up a head of steam as they try to muscle in on the automatic promotion spots, and it is Newcastle who will be breathing easier after moving eight points clear of the Terriers. Brighton, having regained top spot at the weekend after Newcastle stuttered at home to Bristol City, went at their visitors from the start with Bruno and Sam Baldock forcing early saves from Karl Darlow. The breakthrough came in the 14th minute when Ciaran Clark and Murray tangled in the area as they awaited a corner. If anything the pair were wrestling each other, but top-flight ref Bobby Madley ruled in Murray's favour and the striker coolly dispatched his 17th league goal of the season from the spot. Brighton had won all 18 of the previous matches in which they had scored first this season, but this was going to be a major test of that record - especially after left-back Seb Pocognoli limped off to leave young substitute Fikayo Tomori to deal with the threat of Christian Atsu. Newcastle began to find their feet and Matt Ritchie's cross clipped the crossbar before Yoan Gouffran, a surprise choice up front in the absence of injured top scorer Dwight Gayle, robbed Lewis Dunk only to see his shot saved by David Stockdale. The visitors should have equalised In first-half stoppage time when DeAndre Yedlin's cross was met by Atsu eight yards out, but he placed his shot too close to Stockdale who made a fine point-blank save. Moments into the second half Brighton went agonisingly close to doubling their lead, Dunk's header beating Darlow but cleared from under the bar by Paul Dummett. Newcastle were roared on by an impressive 2,600 fans, many who made a 700-mile round trip, and poured forward again but Stockdale denied Gouffran and kept out Daryl Murphy's header. However, with the clock running down Stockdale punched a corner to the feet of Atsu. He mis-hit his shot completely on the edge of the area and it was hurtling yards wide. However, the ball spun off Diame and looped into the air, eluding Stockdale and finding the top right corner, leaving the goalkeeper crestfallen and both Newcastle players looking at each other in disbelief. There was an even later sting in the tail when Atsu got clear down the left and crossed for Perez to sidefoot a dramatic winner and put Newcastle back in control of the promotion race. |
Championship Final round up - May 7th 2017
Sky Bet Championship round-up: Final day results :news: (May 07 2017)
Aston Villa 1-1 Brighton Brentford 1-3 Blackburn (Blackburn are relegated) Bristol City 0-1 Birmingham Burton 2-4 Reading Huddersfield 0-3 Cardiff Newcastle 3-0 Barnsley (Newcastle win the title) Norwich 4-0 QPR Nottingham Forest 3-0 Ipswich Rotherham 1-1 Derby Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Fulham Wigan 1-1 Leeds Wolves 1-0 Preston Sky Bet Championship review Blackburn are the first Premier League winners to be relegated to League One despite beating Brentford 3-1 on the final day of the Sky Bet Championship season. Rovers were demoted on goal difference after Birmingham and Nottingham Forest also won. Charlie Mulgrew and Danny Guthrie gave Blackburn the perfect start as they found themselves 2-0 up inside 16 minutes, but results elsewhere soon began to go against them. Lasse Vibe pulled one back for Brentford in the second half, before Craig Conway's penalty restored Blackburn's two-goal lead. Che Adams grabbed Birmingham's winner 16 minutes in for a 1-0 victory at Bristol City as Harry Redknapp's side survived. Forest thrashed Ipswich 3-0 on an eventful afternoon for Britt Assombalonga. The striker scored a penalty two minutes before half-time and Chris Cohen netted in a second from distance after the break. Assombalonga then had a second spot-kick saved by Bartosz Bialkowski, although he did complete his brace in the 69th minute. Elsewhere, Newcastle snatched the title after Aston Villa equalised late on to draw 1-1 against Brighton. Rafael Benitez's Newcastle were 3-0 winners against Barnsley thanks to goals from Ayoze Perez, Chancel Mbemba and Dwight Gayle. Glenn Murray's penalty looked to have sealed victory and top spot for the Seagulls, with Nathan Baker sent off conceding the spot-kick, but Jack Grealish grabbed a late leveller for Villa. The play-off places had already been decided but Reading guaranteed third in the table with a 4-2 triumph at Burton. Goals from Joseph Mendes, Jordan Obita and Yann Kermorgant put the Royals 3-0 up before Ben Turner and Cauley Woodrow strikes threatened a comeback, only for Lewis Grabban to fire Reading's fourth six minutes from time. Huddersfield goalkeeper Danny Ward will be suspended for their play-off encounter with Sheffield Wednesday after he was sent off in a 3-0 defeat to Cardiff in which a Joe Bennett brace added to Kenneth Zohore's opener. Wednesday lost 2-1 to play-off rivals Fulham, with a Neeskens Kebano double turning the game around after Sam Winnall had broken the deadlock nine minutes in. The Owls had Marco Matias sent off on the stroke of half-time. Already-relegated pair Rotherham and Wigan bowed out with 1-1 draws against Derby and Leeds respectively, Norwich thrashed QPR 4-0 and Wolves beat Preston 1-0. First day of the new season (August 04 2017)
Sky Bet Championship round-up: Sunderland held by Derby as Nottingham Forest beat :news: (August 04 2017)
A review of Friday's action in the Sky Bet Championship, as Sunderland and Derby drew 1-1 and Nottingham Forest beat Millwall. Nottingham Forest 1-0 Millwall Sunderland 1-1 Derby Lewis Grabban struck from the penalty to save Sunderland from opening-night embarrassment as they began their Sky Bet Championship campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Derby at the Stadium of Light. The newly-relegated Black Cats, who are 6/1 for promotion with Sky Bet and 20/1 to win the title, were served a stark reminder of the task that awaits them this season as it took Gary Rowett's Rams just 12 minutes to grab the lead when Bradley Johnson lashed home a loose ball in the box. Grabban equalised just before the break after Jacob Butterfield was judged to have handled, and while Grabban also hit the bar for Sunderland, his side were fortunate when visiting striker Chris Martin wasted a glorious chance to win it late on. For all the well-meaning bustle of two clubs expecting to find themselves in the promotion frame, the start of another competitive campaign was put in perspective by a pre-match minute's applause for Sunderland fan Bradley Lowery, who lost his battle with neuroblastoma last month. Barrie McKay's first goal for Nottingham Forest was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Mark Warburton's side at the City Ground – but Millwall boss Neil Harris will be wondering quite how. The winger's spectacular long-range finish, four minutes before half-time, was far from the game's only decisive moment. Millwall had a host of chances not only to level, but to take away a win of their own – but this was one of those nights where nothing went for them, as opportunity after opportunity went begging. Forest are now 11/1 for promotion and 33/1 to win the title. |
Sunday 13th Aug - Norwich 1-3 Sunderland
Norwich 1-3 Sunderland:
Lewis Grabban brace earns Black Cats victory. :news: (August 13 2017) Lewis Grabban came back to haunt his former club as Sunderland came away from Norwich with three points from an excellent 3-1 win. The on-loan Bournemouth striker scored twice either side of a superb effort from Aiden McGeady to help the visitors to their first Championship success of the season and they are now 16/1 to win the title and 5/1 to be promoted. Grabban also scored a late own goal to provide some consolation for Norwich, who deserved better, but it was Simon Grayson's side who ended up with a win to go with their opening-day draw, Norwich made a bright start in their first home league match under Daniel Farke, with James Maddison winning an early free-kick on the edge of the box and seeing his curling effort deflected wide for a corner. The Canaries' possession-based game was keeping the visitors pinned back in their own half for long periods, but goalkeeper Jason Steele was not exactly overworked, and it was not until the 20th minute that he had to make his first save. He comfortably gathered a low drive from Russell Martin after a typically slick move from the hosts and seven minutes later the home fans were silenced as Sunderland took the lead against the run of play. A routine high ball forward was flicked on by James Vaughan and Grabban shrugged off the attentions of Christophe Zimmerman before calmly slotting the ball past Angus Gunn. It was rough justice for Norwich, but they nearly went two down five minutes before the break when George Honeyman found himself free in the area after poor marking from a free-kick, only to shoot weakly straight at Gunn. Norwich soon began building up a head of steam again after the interval, and Martin nearly restored parity on 56 minutes after Maddison's corner had been headed on. But it was Sunderland who scored next, making it 2-0 with a real beauty from McGeady. The Irishman was lurking on the edge of the box when a corner was only half cleared and, after being picked out by Lee Cattermole, he fired in a superb first-time effort with his left boot to give Gunn no chance. Farke brought on Nelson Oliveira in an attempt to get back into the game, having left the striker out for his squad in midweek following an angry goal celebration at Fulham the previous weekend. But it would not faze the visitors, who made it three on 71 minutes when McGeady beat his man on the left before whipping in a gorgeous cross to the back post which was headed in from close range by Grabban. Norwich looked dead and buried but pulled one back six minutes later. A deep free-kick was headed back into the danger area and Grabban managed to hit the target at the wrong end when trying to hook the ball clear in the six-yard box. It was suddenly game on and Martin saw a fierce drive come back off an upright before Marley Watkins had a goalbound effort blocked at the death but it was not enough. |
The Wolves are Roaring
Sky Bet Championship round-up: :news: (August 15 2017)
Review and updated odds from Tuesday's action in the Sky Bet Championship. Barnsley 2-1 Nottingham Forest Birmingham 0-0 Bolton Brentford 2-2 Bristol City Cardiff 2-0 Sheffield United Derby 1-0 Preston Hull 2-3 Wolves o:) Leeds 0-0 Fulham Middlesbrough 2-0 Burton Millwall 3-4 Ipswich Reading 2-1 Aston Villa Tuesday review Jordan Spence's late header secured a dramatic 4-3 victory for high-flying Ipswich as they maintained their 100 per cent start to the Sky Bet Championship at Millwall. The Tractor Boys have now made their best start to a campaign since they last won promotion to the Premier League 17 years ago and this third straight win will be even sweeter after Millwall thought they had snatched a point. Jed Wallace fired Millwall ahead inside 44 seconds, but Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn turned the game around for Ipswich before Aiden O'Brien equalised for the hosts. Waghorn added his second on the stroke of half-time before Tom Elliott levelled again with 10 minutes left, only for Spence to nod in David McGoldrick's free-kick in the 88th minute. Cardiff maintained their 100 per cent start to stay top with a 2-0 home win over Sheffield United, but Aston Villa dropped into the relegation zone after losing at Reading. Sean Morrison headed the Bluebirds in front from a corner just before the interval before midfielder Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, a summer signing from Rochdale, netted his fourth goal of the season 10 minutes into the second half. That left Cardiff flying high at the summit, but Villa are still searching for their first Championship win after going down 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium. Steve Bruce's men found themselves behind four minutes into the second half when Glenn Whelan deflected Adrian Popa's cross into his own net, which goal-line technology confirmed had crept in. The Royals, beaten on penalties in last season's play-off final, then doubled their lead after 55 minutes through a close-range effort from Mo Barrow. Villa, one of the pre-season promotion favourites under new skipper John Terry, pulled a late goal back through Conor Hourihane but it was not enough to prevent them slipping into the bottom two. Wolves also made it three league wins in a row after they won 3-2 at Hull. o:D The visitors raced into an early lead through Ruben Neves, the £15.8m summer signing from Porto, but Hull were back on level terms after 27 minutes when Michael Dawson headed home a corner. On-loan Atletico Madrid midfielder Diogo Jota put the visitors back in front two minutes ahead of the break, with substitute Ricardo Cavaleiro slotting home a third in stoppage time. With nine minutes having been added on, Hull pulled a goal back through David Meyler's penalty, but there was to be no grandstand finale. Barnsley picked up their first points of the new campaign with a 2-1 home win over Nottingham Forest. The Tykers took the lead after just four minutes through a header from Matty Pearson, but Daryl Murphy nodded Forest level after 26 minutes. A close-range strike from Ryan Hedges proved to be Barnsley's winner five minutes into the second half. There were no goals at St Andrew's between Birmingham and Bolton, while Leeds and Fulham were also unable to break the deadlock at Elland Road. Bristol City grabbed an equaliser deep into eight minutes of stoppage time to bag a 2-2 draw at Brentford, where midfielder Josh McEachran was taken off on a stretcher late on. City had raced ahead after only five minutes through Josh Brownhill before Ollie Watkins headed in an equaliser after 56 minutes. Brentford substitute Neal Maupay looked to have secured all three points with 13 minutes to go, but the visitors grabbed a last-gasp draw when Bobby Reid scrambled the ball over the line. A 58th-minute penalty from Matej Vydra was enough to give Derby a 1-0 home win over Preston while Britt Assombalonga scored twice as Middlesbrough beat 10-man Burton 2-0 at the Riverside Stadium. Albion's miserable night on Teesside was compounded when substitute Hope Akpan, who had not been on long, was shown a straight red card for a clumsy challenge after 78 minutes. |
Wednesdays review
Sky Bet Championship round-up::news:
Norwich beat QPR; Sheff Wed draw with Sunderland (August 16 2017) A review and updated odds of Wednesday's action from the Sky Bet Championship. Sky Bet Championship results Norwich 2-0 QPR Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Sunderland Nelson Oliveira put his spat with new boss Daniel Farke firmly behind him by helping Norwich to a 2-0 win over QPR, their first Sky Bet Championship success of the season. The Portuguese striker was dropped from the squad for City's recent Carabao Cup tie as punishment for his angry goal celebrations in front of Farke at Fulham on the opening day, after he had come off the bench to help the visitors secure a point. But he returned to the fold after apologising for his antics - and marked his first start of the campaign by firing the Canaries ahead against the Hoops just after the break. On-loan Southampton midfielder Harrison Reed later opened his Norwich account with a superb second as the Farke era got up and running at Carrow Road . Sunderland were put to the test but they emerged with credit after a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday After a horrible campaign last year, and a pre-season littered with problems, the Black Cats were not fancied to be much of a threat on their return to the second tier, but under the guidance of streetwise Simon Grayson they took four points from their opening two games. They looked like following up their win at Norwich on Saturday with another impressive three points at Hillsborough after George Honeyman's sweet fourth-minute strike and 70 minutes of control. But David Jones' stunning 30-yard drive brought Wednesday level and then the Owls launched an onslaught, with Gary Hooper hitting the crossbar. Sunderland somehow held on, though, and will be delighted to leave South Yorkshire with a point and their unbeaten record in tact, while also denying the Owls a first win. |
High Flying Wolves Go Top
Sky Bet Championship round-up :news: (October 14th 2017)
Review from Saturday's action in the Sky Bet Championship. Wolves went top of the Sky Bet Championship by sweeping aside midlands rivals Aston Villa 2-0 . Second-half goals from Jota and Leo Bonatini earned Wolves the three points that moved them above Cardiff at the summit. Nuno Espirito Santo's men are two points clear after ending Villa's four-match winning run. Chris Basham scored the only goal as Sheffield United beat Ipswich 1-0 to move level on points with Cardiff and the Blades are into 11/1 to win the division. At the bottom end of the table, Bolton - promoted with United from League One last term - finally earned their first win since their return to the Championship by beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1. Phil Parkinson's side had not found the net in any competition since August - a 3-2 home win in the Carabao Cup against Wednesday - and the Owls made obliging guests once more. Sammy Ameobi put Bolton ahead in the 10th minute before Sam Hutchinson put through his own net just after the hour mark. Kieran Lee pulled one back for Wednesday with 22 minutes left but Bolton held on for their first win in 12 league games. Denis Odoi struck six minutes into stoppage time as Fulham came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Preston. Jordan Hugill gave the visitors the lead in the 18th minute before Sean Maguire added a second seven minutes later. Oliver Norwood pulled one back from the penalty spot with 16 minutes left and Odoi completed the comeback. Fulham are 5/2 for promotion, a market in which Sunderland are 200/1 after their miserable home form continued in a 1-1 by QPR. The hosts - without a win at the Stadium of Light since December 2016 - needed a second-half equaliser from Aiden McGeady to earn a point after Idrissa Sylla's 37th-minute opener. A stoppage-time equaliser from Nelson Oliveira denied 10-man Hull a win at Norwich. Nouha Dicko put the Tigers ahead before David Meyler was sent off for two bookable offences, and Norwich eventually made them pay six minutes into added time. An explosive start at Barnsley soon fizzled out as the Tykes drew 2-2 with Middlesbrough. Ashley Fletcher's own goal was cancelled out by Martin Braithwaite but Cameron McGeehan headed in his first goal for Barnsley to restore their lead after just nine minutes. The game's other goal came from Britt Assombalonga on the hour mark. Elsewhere, Leeds and Millwall both had late penalties saved as they suffered 1-0 defeats to Reading and Brentford respectively. |

Luke Ayling's header broke the deadlock early in the second half and Kemar Roofe struck his third of the season in fine style in the 72nd minute. Ayling's first Leeds goal was awarded with the aid of goal-line technology after referee Robert Jones had initially awarded a goal kick. West Brom climbed up to third after thrashing Steve McClaren's QPR 7-1 at the Hawthorns. Joel Lynch cancelled out Matt Phillips' opener for West Brom before the break, but Kieran Gibbs, Jay Rodriguez's penalty - after Josh Scowen's foul on Dwight Gayle - put the Baggies in control. Rodriguez converted his second penalty after Matt Ingram's foul on Gayle and Phillips grabbed his second before Hal Robson-Kanu completed the rout in stoppage time. Former England striker Peter Crouch came off the bench to score his 200th senior goal and rescue a Sky Bet Championship point for Stoke in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Preston. Paul Gallagher's powerful penalty handed the Lilywhites the lead at Deepdale but Erik Pieters levelled with an impressive strike before the break. Graham Burke netted deep inside first-half stoppage time as Preston regained the advantage, before substitute Crouch drew Gary Rowett's side level after half-time to salvage a point for the Potters. Middlesbrough stay top, having played a game more, after a 2-0 win at Bristol City as first-half goals from Martin Braithwaite and Britt Assombalonga secured them a third straight league win. Aston Villa remain fourth after they were held 1-1 at 10-man Ipswich. Jonathan Kodjia headed Villa into a first-half lead after Ipswich had hit the crossbar through Gwion Edwards' shot. Trevor Chalobah equalised, but Ipswich were reduced to 10 men before the interval when midfielder Tayo Edun received his second yellow card. Billy Sharp's stoppage-time header clinched Sheffield United a 2-1 home win against Norwich. Summer signing John Egan headed his first goal for the Blades and although Jordan Rhodes' second of the season hauled Norwich level, Sharp pounced in the third minute of time added on. Bolton moved up to fifth place after a 1-0 win at bottom club Reading extended their unbeaten league start, with Yanic Wildschut firing the only goal early in the second half. Nottingham Forest avoided their first defeat of the season thanks to Hillal Soudani's last-gasp equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Wigan. Soudani followed up to convert a rebound after Lewis Grabban's penalty had been saved in the first minute of time added on. Forest's Matt Cash had cancelled out Nick Powell's second-minute header, but Wigan regained the lead through Will Grigg's penalty after he had been fouled by Ben Osborn. Bradley Dack's fourth goal of the season in all competitions secured Blackburn a 1-0 win at Hull and Derby slipped to their second defeat of the season, losing 2-1 at Millwall. Millwall stormed into a 2-0 first-half lead through Lee Gregory and Shaun Williams before Derby responded through David Nugent in the 73rd minute. |
