A poor game in which Uruguay failed to score and play with any passion


I was expecting a cut and thrust South American battle but in reality it was a timid match with Columbia never really looking in trouble.


They go forward to play Brazil in the last eight on Friday which promises to be a lot better match for us fans..

The Dutch have looked decent in two of their three games and with the fire power of Van Persie and Robben i can see them winning this game with a bit to spare.

Mexico are average at best and although they are quite organised at the back i think they lack goals.

The Dutch left it late to come from behind to win this....


For 85 mins they looked second best especially after a wonderful opener by Dos Santos but for once Mexico failed to clear a corner and Sniejder pounced to level

Then with 3 mins of the 6 mins injury time Robben was foulded in the area and Hunterlar made no mistake from the spot to put a relieved Dutch team through.

So the Dutch go through to the last 8 and maybe they can still go all the way.

Costa Rica have been the big surprise of this world cup and could still go further if they can best the Greeks.

But Greece are a team that do well in competitions like this and i think they might just edge this one tonight.

Another match that went down to the wire.

The "whipping boys" Costa Rica go through to a last 8 meeting with Holland after playing just over an hour with 10 men against a Greek team that were about as poor as you can be.

Costa Rica defended great but the Greeks really had no idea what to do when Costa Rica went down to 10 and only an injury time goal took the game to extra time.

In that period the Greeks should have won easily but with no adventure and some players who frankly should not have been at a world cup they failed to break the 10 men down and lost the penalty shoot out to exit the competition and anyone whos not Greek will be pleased to see them go.

Firstly we need to get some points back on the board after a poor run..

This afternoon sees the French in the last 16 against a Nigerian team that could be anything.

I can see the French coming through in an open match but you cant right off the Nigerians so i doubt there will be to much in it.

Once the French realised that starting with Giroud up front was about as good an idea as having JLS as support for Motorhead the French ran out easy winners.

For the first 60 mins it was an even game with Nigeria giving as good as they got but this French team are full of decent players and with arguably the best midfield on show at this world cup they took over to control the game.

I think this French team can go all the way now and although they should be playing the Germans in the last eight i doubt they will be that worried.

Surely the Germans will put an end to the spirited run of Algeria tonight.


The Algerians have been great but this tough looking German side should easily book a last eight game with France.


The Germans started well but maybe slipped a bit in their last game but i think like many teams that had qualified before their final group game they took it easy.
