The Masters....Starts Thursday

The first golfing major of the season starts Thursday and is LIVE on the BBC every night with the final round being played on Sunday....

Now this is my fav major and over the last couple of years we have done well with our bets on the big golf events....especially The Masters

2007 we had Zach Johnson at 300/1 when he won his first green jacket and last year we had a couple of big priced e/w winners.....Lets hope we can keep that run going this year.....B (:

I will be taking a look at this years field and posting my selections later and it will be great if any of you golfing nuts post who you think will be worth following.....:brains:

As usual i will be starting off backing FIVE players and hopefully a few will be around the top of the leaderboard going into the back nine on Sunday night.....:t:

Best bet I have seen up to now is to lay Rory McIlroy to make the cut, trading @1.4 on Betfair. This is 5/2 on, potentially a great player but very inexperienced

I was just saying this today.......i would lay him not to make the cut all day.

Hes a player for the future but i doubt very much he will be able to compeate at Augusta this year....

Maybe in three or four years after getting a bit used to the course and the pressure of a major in the USA we will see his true potential....

Part-Timer April 7th, 2009 17:19

Just checked again, he is now 2.34, you could have had nearly £250 - £100 earlier. You can now get £10 - £13.40. Was it you that took it o:D

No unfortunatly not......:eek!::'D

Tony2005 April 7th, 2009 18:14

Heres my...Five for fun...

I dont see much value backing the first 8 or so in the markets even though a bit of 5/2 Tiger could look great value come Sunday....:brains:

I would rather take the bigger prices with Tiger in the field then skinnier ones betting without him...:eek!:

Heres my five that can be backed e/w 6 places with most firms who i think can give us a good run for our money over the Easter Weekend....B (:

ZACH JOHNSON...Around 45/1 i tipped him a couple of years ago when he shocked the golfing world at nearly 400/1......:brains:

Over the last few weeks he has been slowly coming back to form and played great when in the last group with Tiger and Sean O'Hair the other Sunday.....Plays the course well and if he can get off to a good start wil be right there come Sunday...

LUKE DONALD...80/1..been on the injured list for most of 2008 but now back playing better then ever and this course could well suit his game.....Also a good bet to be top European this year..

NICK WATNEY...66/1....Now under the Butch Harmon banner he's a sure fire major winner in the making and although this might come a bit early in his career i just cant let this price pass me by and a little e/w bet must be had...

JIM FURYK...66/1 has had a very average 18 months and two years ago would have been one of the favs to win this...Hes a player whos always around come the last day of majors and another who is much too bigger price to not back....

KEVIN SUTHERLAND...300/1....Well theres always a big priced player who shines in a major and i think this could be Sutherland here in Augusta....Local to the area hes been brought up playing these sort of greens and has played well so far this season without reward....
Hopefully he can keep that good form going and maybe we can have another Zach Johnson priced winner......B (:

Im sure as usual it will be four evenings of great golf and hopefully come Monday we have swelled our bank accounts......B (:

Good luck with whoever you back.....8-P

taylormade April 8th, 2009 21:56

ross fisher @ 100/1
ian poulter @ 100/1
anthony kim @ 66/1
boo boo weekley @ 150/1

my 4 selections for a bit of added interest,
what odds tiger to fall in the water at amen corner ?
I believe there are 19 players making there debut at the masters, there is a market for top player from them,10/1 ross fisher good value bet in this market.

Tony2005 April 9th, 2009 06:35

Yes Taylor think your right....thats a great price for Fisher who i think is one of the players coming througfh the ranks who will go onto greater things....:brains:

Part-Timer April 9th, 2009 08:21

I've got Ogilvy @ 21, Garcia @ 42 and Villegas @ 70. Also laid McIlroy @ 1.4 to miss the cut. Trying to lay £250 - £100, only got just over £11 upto now o:D Tony Kevin Sutherland is trading @ 680 on Betfair :eek!: Had a £5 on him, if he starts okay and makes the cut should be a free bet o:D

Tony2005 April 9th, 2009 14:12

Nice one PT.....

I got 675/1 on Sutherland and bigger prices my other selections on the exchanges.....

Watney has birdied the 3rd to go 2 under...........Long way to go yet though.....o:D

If you go on http://www.masters.com/en_US/index.html

you can watch Amen corner live feed......:brains:

Ross Fisher leads on 3 under.....B (:

Mcolroy.....9/4 to miss the cut....:eek!:

Part-Timer April 9th, 2009 14:18

I've had £50 - £120 he misses the cut. Fisher was trading @ 280 now @ 48 :eek!:

Tony2005 April 9th, 2009 14:24

i backed him to be top rookie......Thats the good thing about golf betting on exchanges....if you had £5 at 280 you could lay it off now at around 55/1 for a nice fre bet.....

Tony2005 April 9th, 2009 16:46

Can Sutherland lead after ...

Round ONE.........8-P:eek!:

Tonga April 10th, 2009 08:55

Thanks for the link Tony .. nice one

Tony2005 April 10th, 2009 09:48

No problem Tonga...

Its a good link to watch on the pc and in my opinion covers the best holes on the course...

My selections have started well and i have already laid off Furyk at 16/1 so im free rolling on most of my bets now and still got a good profit if he wins...

Its a shame the scores in the afternoon were so good otherwise i could have laid off on Sutherland who is now trading around half the odds i got but would have been shorter if only a couple off the lead...

I still think Zach Johnson will be around come Sunday and is trading around 56/1 which is only a little lower then i took pre tournememt but might go back in for a few more quid at those odds..

Nick Watney started well but although right in it still hes trading at around pre tournement prices so will leave that now to run..

Luke Donald came back from 4 over and finished at +1 which was a great result in the end but is trading at over double the odds i got and i wont be investing anymore there..

I backed Aron Baddley at 170/1 for small stakes and hes trading at half those odds after a solid start..

Tonga April 10th, 2009 12:55

So you can all share in my embarrassment, I backed Tiger Woods, at 4.8 so at the moment it looks not too silly, but time will tell… 8-P

Woods is always worth a few quid and i know many golf punters who have made a lot of money backing him either pre tournement or after the first round....

Woods not only is the greatest golfer ever ....but also is one of the very few whos head doesnt drop when they have had a bad hole or two...

Thats why backing him ALWAYS gives you a run for your money win or lose...and its not very often he loses.....8-P

Tony2005 April 10th, 2009 17:01

Early day TWO news.....

After yesterdays easy set up of the course they have toughened it up today and scoring has become very difficult with a lot of players over par for their rounds so far.....:eek!:

One of my picks....Zac Johnson is one of the biggest sufferers and is 5 over through 10 holes to be +3 for the tournement and on his way home if he doesnt pick up a couple of birdies ....

The projected cut at the moment is +2..................

Follow all the upto date scores at.....

http://www.masters.com/en_US/scores/index.html

Tony2005 April 10th, 2009 17:15

Just gone back in .....

For a couple a small bets on players who could come through this afternoon after only fair starts yesterday...

£5.....Vijay Singh @ 102.0

£2.....Luke Donald @ 516.0

£2.....Justin Rose @ 328.0

£5.....Angel Cabrerra @ 48.0

Hopefully a couple will improve today and i can lay off at much smaller prices later.....:brains:

Tony2005 April 10th, 2009 22:30

Mcilroy....Disqualified...?

After kicking the sand at 18 before playing his fourth shot....:h?:

He left his third in there and it is deemed to be testing the surface....:eek!:

Awaiting a ruling.......

Things might be looking up PT.......o:D

Part-Timer April 10th, 2009 23:27

If so I apologise for the names I called him o:D

Part-Timer April 10th, 2009 23:55

18 holes what a difference :loveme: Free rolling on Ogilvy Garcia and Villegas 8-P

Tony2005 April 11th, 2009 07:02

Mcilroy.....Avoids DQ,

After a legnthy meeting the officials have decided NOT to dq the young Irishman........:h?:

In my opinion he CLEARLY kicked the sand between shots in the bunker and thats a ONE stroke penalty..........:h?:

Rules are there to be kept to regardless of who you are and this is a BAD decision by the officials....

Hopefully he doesnt go on to win now or finish in the big money otherwise i feel there will be questions asked.........

Part-Timer April 11th, 2009 09:05

Just my luck :eek!: That has cost me £170

taylormade April 11th, 2009 09:39

kicked the sand ? kicked fresh air in my opinion, its a good decision, where common sense has prevailed,

I think the only problem is that if he had missed the cut they would have disquallified him......He either kicked the sand and should have got a one shot penalty or he didnt touch the sand.....thats what we will have to see later....:h?:

Wouldnt be too happy if he edged one of my picks out of an e/w slot....:'D

Part-Timer April 11th, 2009 10:23

I don't think he would be still in any competition run by the R & A
