Monday's latest news, rumours & market moves from the summer transfer window .
![]() 1505: This is an interesting rumour as the Express and Star claim that Wolves are closing in on signing midfielder Ruben Neves after agreeing a £15million fee with FC Porto. Looks like there will be plenty of money spent at Molineux this summer and it would be a great effort to complete the signing of Neves, he's linked with Chelsea and Liverpool in our Premier League transfers and rumours story. 1440: Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is pleased with the signing of John Terry. "The main thing was John and his will to play," Bruce said. "He wants to play and I just reiterated that to him - that you're a long-time retired, you've still got a lot to offer. "It's a huge acquisition for all of us here. It sends out a message of intent." 1425: Some quotes are in from John Terry's first Aston Villa press conference. Nothing too surprising but that is normally the way. On interest from Premier League clubs: "I thank them for their offers - for me it was just the mental side of playing against Chelsea was too much to get over. "I had 22 years at the football club, 22 unbelievable years. I'm very proud of that but this is a new chapter in my life and my career. "I wish Chelsea well next season and will be watching out but my thoughts are 100 per cent here and the ambition is to get us back to the Premier League." On trying to get Aston Villa back to the Premier League with Chelsea: "That's the ideal situation. "If, in a year's time, we're sitting here and Aston Villa are playing in the Premier League then I've done my job and everyone else has done theirs. "We can cross that bridge, hopefully, when we come to it. First and foremost we've got a big and important year ahead of us." On his role with Villa: "It's solely playing. "But obviously I'm looking to learn from the likes of Steve (Bruce) and (Villa's director of football) Steve Round, who I've played under at England. "There's a lot of factors to hopefully serve me well in the future. I can't continue playing forever but whilst I'm in good physical condition I still want to continue playing." 1405: Sky Sports are reporting that West Ham United have held talks about signing Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen. That would be a good signing for the Hammers but Hernandez is still just one of 14 strikers linked with the club in our Premier League transfers and rumours story. 1355: Swansea boss Paul Clement also talked about missing out on John Terry. "My understanding of the situation is that John, with his relationship with Chelsea, was going to find it difficult to be a direct competitor of them in the Premier League," Clement told talkSPORT. "John's someone I know very well and have a lot of respect for. I have a good relationship with him and I understood. Having known him since he was 16 and worked with him as well when I was assistant at Chelsea, I understood very well his situation. "I think he's made a sensible choice - Aston Villa are a very good club, they've got a good manager, nice infrastructure. "He's getting that balance between wanting to continue to play at a good level but at the same time not wanting to pull at his heartstrings because it was difficult for him leaving Chelsea." 1350: Harry Redknapp didn't sign John Terry for Birmingham so he's decided to use the opportunity to offer some comments about the new Aston Villa defender. "We made him a good offer but it was always difficult," Redknapp said on Sky Sports News HQ. "It was John's decision and I respect whatever decision he made. I'm hoping to bring in maybe five or six players and spread my budget to build a team rather than putting all my eggs in one basket with one outstanding player." 1345: A look at Sky Bet's Transfer Specials sees Wayne Rooney move odds-on at 1/2 to return to Everton this summer. The striker started the day at 7/4 to complete a return to Goodison Park but interest is growing in a switch to the Toffees. Rooney is 5/2 to remain with Manchester United and a switch to China is now out at 4/1. 1335: China international Yuning Zhang has joined West Brom and he's already on his way out of the club! The striker has signed from Vitesse Arnhem for an undisclosed fee but he's joined Werder Bremen straight away on a two-year loan deal. That's because West Brom say Zhang would not have been granted a work permit as China sit outside the top 50 in FIFA's world rankings. 1330: We bring you apologies that a technical error at Transfer Bulletin HQ means today's updates have disappeared (like interest from the Premier League in John Terry) so the best of today's news is coming up. We'll stay with John Terry as he completes his move to Aston Villa on a one-year contract. "I am delighted to join Aston Villa," Terry told Villa's official website. "It's a club I have admired from afar for many years - there are fantastic facilities at Bodymoor Heath, Villa Park is one of the finest stadiums in the country and there's a good group of players here, with an experienced and successful manager in Steve Bruce. "I can't wait to get started now and look to help the squad achieve something special this season."
