Time to draw a profit ?
Dale Tempest (Sporting Life) looks ahead to the weekend's Premier League action and he'll be playing a draw accumulator. Former professional footballer Dale Tempest has turned bookie - he's now Sky Bet's public relations director. A 16-year career saw him play for the likes of Fulham, Huddersfield and Colchester so he knows exactly how the game is played and these days he's very much got his finger on the pulse of the markets as both a punter and a bookie. His regular Friday column explores the mindset of players and bookies and highlights the best bets for the weekend's action. This week his focus is on a number of games where the draw looks the most likely outcome. It's one of those weekends where you look at a lot of the fixtures and you think 'this could definitely be a draw'; when it's the biggest price and the most likely outcome, you have to play that way. The games that I've picked out to play on my draw accas are Liverpool v Chelsea and Burnley v Hull on Saturday and on Sunday I'll be adding Sunderland v Everton, West Brom v Newcastle and Swansea v Arsenal. Chelsea will be strongly fancied to beat Liverpool but the way Jose Mourinho sets up not to lose in these big games always leaves me reluctant to take a short price about a Blues win. Burnley are desperate for their first win of the season but I think they'll have to settle for a draw against a Hull side that have drawn three of their five away games. Hull are proving hard to beat but they've still only won one of their last 10 away games and therefore the draw is the place to be. I'm always keen to take on teams that have played in the Europa League. Everton may only have lost two out of 10 away games but Sunderland will be buoyed by the victory gained last Monday night and, at 5/2, this is another game that has to go on my list of drawn games. West Brom are the home draw specialists of the Premier League, drawing 9 of the last 14 at the Hawthorns, and, with Newcastle now much more resilient, the draw once again seems the place to be. At half-time in midweek most people would have had Arsenal as the banker of the weekend but they imploded and the trip to Swansea will be particularly difficult, especially as Arsenal's four wins this season have only come against the bottom six sides. Wilfried Bony is in good form with four goals in as many games and I'll be putting another cross on the coupon for this one. Of the other games, I expect Manchester United and Southampton to win but at 2/7 and 4/9 I'll let those games go and other short prices I'll be leaving alone are Manchester City at a desperately short 2/5 away at QPR and Spurs at 8/13 at home to a Stoke side who are fresh and rested unlike their hosts.
