World Cup - Steve Finn makes history with hat-trick
Steven Finn became the first England bowler to claim a hat-trick at a World Cup in their tournament opener against Australia in Melbourne. The 25-year-old quick claimed the rare feat from the final three balls of the innings as Australia posted 342 for nine. Finn first had Brad Haddin caught at third-man by Stuart Broad before Joe Root held a good diving catch on the rope after Glenn Maxwell lofted down the ground. Mitchell Johnson then clouted the hat-trick ball to James Anderson, who took the first-ever England one-day international hat-trick against Pakistan at the Oval in 2003. Since then only Steve Harmison and Andrew Flintoff have taken a hat-trick for England in the 50-over format. Finn finished the innings with figures of five for 71, although his celebrations at the end were muted after Australia had crashed the highest World Cup score ever against England.
