Talking Wednesdays Premier League round-up

Premier League round-up: Bournemouth beat Chelsea (January 31 2018)

Review from Wednesday night's action in the Premier League.

Premier League results

Chelsea 0-3 Bournemouth
Everton 2-1 Leicester
Newcastle 1-1 Burnley
Southampton 1-1 Brighton
Manchester City 3-0 West Brom
Stoke 0-0 Watford
Tottenham 2-0 Manchester United

Bournemouth scored three goals in 16 remarkable second-half minutes to record a sensational 3-0 victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.

Callum Wilson opened the scoring for the visitors shortly after the interval before Junior Stanislas doubled their lead with 64 minutes on the clock.

Former Chelsea defender Nathan Ake then netted a third moments later to stun Antonio Conte's toothless side on a night to forget for the Premier League champions.

Christian Eriksen scored within 11 seconds as Tottenham brushed aside a below-par Manchester United to seal a crunch 2-0 victory in the race for the top four.

Eriksen's strike, coming after four Spurs passes, is the third fastest in Premier League history, slower only than Ledley King and Alan Shearer, who both took 10 seconds to hit the net in 2000 and 2003 respectively.

A Phil Jones own-goal then put Tottenham in charge before half-time at Wembley, with United fortunate not to suffer a more emphatic defeat.

Their chaotic display was summed up by Jose Mourinho substituting Marouane Fellaini in the second half, less than eight minutes after the Belgian had been brought on.

Mauricio Pochettino's men stay fifth but have reduced the gap behind Chelsea to three points and United to five.

Kevin De Bruyne was again the inspiration as Manchester City opened up a 15-point lead over Manchester United at the top with a 3-0 win over West Brom.

City may have pulled out of a deadline day deal for Leicester's Riyad Mahrez but on the field it was business as usual at the Etihad Stadium.

De Bruyne set up Fernandinho for City's opening goal and then added the second himself before a delightful late finish from Sergio Aguero wrapped up the win.

Theo Walcott's first two goals for Everton secured a first win in eight matches as they claimed a 2-1 triumph over Leicester.

The £20million January signing became the first Toffees player to score twice in his maiden Premier League appearance at Goodison Park since Romelu Lukaku against Newcastle in September 2013 with a first-half double.

Jamie Vardy's penalty midway through the second half set up a nervous finish but Everton clung on to inflict the Foxes' first defeat of 2018 as they squandered the chance to close the gap on sixth-placed Arsenal.

Southampton recovered from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Saints had recently shown signs of improvement and secured some encouraging results, but after under-pressure manager Mauricio Pellegrino started new £19.2million striker Guido Carrillo on the bench, they remain at risk of relegation and in 18th place.

Brighton represented beatable opposition even after Glenn Murray had given them the lead, but following Jack Stephens scoring for the second game in succession and despite their dominance, the winning goal Southampton so desperately needed did not arrive.

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow's late own goal denied struggling Newcastle a first Premier League win at St James' Park since October as Burnley struck late to snatch a 1-1 draw.

Sam Vokes' close-range header went in off Darlow via the crossbar with five minutes remaining to cancel out Jamaal Lascelles 65th-minute opener.

Meanwhile, there was little to get those who braved the cold excited at the bet365 Stadium as Stoke and Watford shared the points in a goalless stalemate.

Stoke had the best chance to break the deadlock just after the hour mark when Orestis Karnezis blocked Xherdan Shaqiri's driven shot and substitute Peter Crouch headed the rebound straight at the goalkeeper.
