David Moyes is Sky Bet's new favourite to take over at Swansea following their dismissal of Garry Monk.

Brendan Rodgers, who was in charge of the Swans for almost two years from July 2010 and led them to promotion to the Premier League within a year, was initially quoted at 2/1 in the aftermath of Monk's departure but that was soon taken as punters forced the price into 1/2.

Reports later emerged that the Northern Irishman was not in the running for the job and layers reacted by pushing him out to 4/1.

David Moyes was slashed from 6/1 to 13/8 favourite, with Gus Poyet and Mark Warburton next in the betting at 3/1 and 7/2 respectively.

It's 14/1 Dennis Bergkamp and 16/1 Josep Clotet Ruiz, with Harry Redknapp offered at 20s.

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas wasn't surprised at the news given recent results and feels Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes are both worthy candidates for the vacant job.

He told Sky Sports News HQ: "Looking at it there's probably somebody the club have in mind that chairman Huw Jenkins wants to bring in quickly. We'll have to wait and see whether it's another British manager or a foreign manager but you have to say the writing was on the wall following Jenkins' quotes to Sky Sports on Wednesday.

"Jenkins said something had to change and this is the result. This guy has done a wonderful job at promoting Swansea, and many managers have done their part over the years - the likes of Michael Laudrup - and they've managed to sign some fantastic footballers. They still have some very good players there now.

"Under normal circumstances you might point the finger at the owners and say this is a cop out, rather than taking the blame and responsibility, but in this case Jenkins comes across as a very genuine man and I honestly think he did want Monk to be stay and be a success at the club. But unfortunately it's a results business we live in.

"Monk did a fantastic job last season, he did much better than I thought he would, but it's been a strange run of form over the past eight or 10 weeks, with a real lack of goals, and he must be disappointed today. But I think his credibility was really high during his time as Swansea manager.

"Brendan Rodgers wouldn't be a bad move for the club. Some people don't like to go back but Rodgers has some fantastic qualities and whoever it is who gets this gig then they're going into a fantastic club and a great opportunity.

"Many City this weekend is tough but the fixtures look a bit better after that and whoever goes in is going into a great set-up.

"David Moyes is another contender and I'd love to see another Scottish manager in the Premier League. If you take Manchester United out of the equation, where the timing possibly was against him, his record is good and he'd be another young, vibrant manager to bring in and make an impact."
