Default Wednesdays Premier Review

A review of Wednesday night's Premier League action as Chelsea ground out a 10th straight victory with a 1-0 win at Sunderland. (Dec 14th 2016)

Chelsea moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Cesc Fabregas scored the only goal in the 40th minute with a curling finish to give Antonio Conte's side a 10th successive Premier League win.

Liverpool were also victorious in the north-east and moved above Arsenal into second on goal difference with a 3-0 triumph at Middlesbrough.

Simon Mignolet replaced the under-fire Loris Karius in goal and kept a clean sheet, with Adam Lallana scoring twice to make it three in two games since returning from injury.

Lallana's goals came either side of Divock Origi's fifth in as many games for Jurgen Klopp's team.

Victories for Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United made it a perfect evening for the top six sides.

United left it late, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring the winner two minutes from time in a 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace.

Paul Pogba gave United the lead just before half-time but James McArthur equalised with 34 minutes remaining.

United were unlucky to see a Juan Mata strike ruled out erroneously for offside, but Palace will feel that was just desserts after Pogba's controversial opener.

Ibrahimovic handled the ball in the build-up while Pogba should have been flagged offside.

Pablo Zabaleta scored his first goal in two years to give Man City the lead against Watford.

Pep Guardiola's side, looking for a first win in four games, rode their luck but secured the points late on as David Silva made it 2-0.

Christian Eriksen scored twice as Tottenham defeated Hull 3-0, with Victor Wanyama adding the third.

Salomon Rondon doubled his tally for the season with a 13-minute hat-trick in West Brom's 3-1 triumph over Swansea.

The striker opened the scoring in the 50th minute and added his third header in the 63rd minute to take the game away from the Swans before Wayne Routledge grabbed a consolation.

West Ham posted their first Premier League victory in nearly two months.

Given Burnley have only taken one point away from home all season, the Clarets might have been considered the perfect visitors, and the Hammers emerged with a 1-0 success.

The goal came just before half-time, Mark Noble seeing his penalty saved by Tom Heaton but tapping in the rebound.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes took charge of his 400th Premier League game and saw his 10-man side grind out a 0-0 draw against Southampton after Marko Arnautovic was sent off in the 23rd minute for a challenge on Sofiane Boufal.
