Default Sundays FA cup (4th round) Review

Sutton shock Leeds; Lions roar - - (January 29 2017)

A review of Sunday's FA Cup fourth round action.

Sutton provided another big upset in the FA Cup fourth round as they claimed a stunning 1-0 win over Leeds.

Captain Jamie Collins scored the winner from the penalty spot as the lowest-ranked side in the competition shocked the Sky Bet Championship high-flyers.

No less than 83 places separated these teams but Leeds manager Garry Monk, clearly concentrating on promotion back to the Premier League, paid the price for making 10 changes to his line-up.

Monk's side, packed full of youngsters and including two debutants - neither of whom were even named in the squad line-up on the back of the programme - struggled badly on Sutton's artificial pitch.

Collins' second-half spot-kick ensured Sutton joined Lincoln in the fifth round - the first time two non-league teams have made it to the last 16.

Bastian Schweinsteiger enjoyed a memorable Manchester United return, wrapping up a comprehensive 4-0 win against Wigan on his first start for more than a year.

Few expected to see the 32-year-old in the club's colours again after being frozen out by Jose Mourinho, falling so far down the pecking order that the club even wrote him off as an asset in their accounts.

However, Schweinsteiger has surprisingly returned from the cold and capped his first United start since January 9, 2016, by hooking home the FA Cup holders' final goal of a 4-0 win against Wigan.

Eyebrows were raised at the former Germany captain's inclusion, compounded by the rust visible in the opening stages against Warren Joyce's well-drilled side.

However, Schweinsteiger's fine cross created Marouane Fellaini's opening goal just before half-time, from which a much-changed United returned brightly.

Anthony Martial, given a chance to shine at Old Trafford, set-up Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan goals, before Schweinsteiger brought the biggest cheer of the afternoon by turning home from close range.

Millwall of Sky Bet League One capped a significant week in their existence with a 1-0 home victory over Watford that took them into the fifth round.

Another convincing performance was finally rewarded with the goal it deserved when Steve Morison's late, close-range finish ensured Watford became the second Premier League team the hosts have eliminated this season.

It also concluded the week in which their future at The Den became secure after Lewisham council's abandonment of a controversial property scheme.

Fulham have reached the fifth round for the first time since the 2010-11 season after a 4-1 win over Premier League side Hull on Sunday.

The hosts put four past a Hull outfit who looked lethargic throughout the game with former Tigers forward Sone Aluko opening the scoring for Fulham just 17 minutes in.

Hull equalised shortly after half-time through Evandro but goals from Chris Martin, Ryan Sessegnon and Stefan Johansen put the game to bed before Hull striker Abel Hernandez failed to convert two late penalty kicks at Craven Cottage.
