Wink - Tuesday Premier Review

West Ham 2-0 Huddersfield: (September 11th 2017)

Slaven Bilic got the birthday present he so desperately needed as West Ham hauled themselves off the foot of the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield. (That's the West Ham Way)

Following Frank De Boer's dismissal from Crystal Palace just four matches into the fledgling campaign, it appeared the knives were being sharpened at the London Stadium as the Hammers propped up the table going into Monday night's clash with high-flying Huddersfield.

But after a frustrating first half, in which Javier Hernandez hit the crossbar, a deflected Pedro Obiang gave Bilic's side the lead on 72 minutes and the Terriers appeared rocked momentarily after conceding their first goal of the season.

Andre Ayew prodded home from close range to double West Ham's lead with 15 minutes to play and while Tom Ince threatened late on for newly-promoted Town, the Hammers held on for a deserved first success.

Match reaction: Slaven Bilic told Sky Sports: "I am happy for the lads, I am happy for the whole club. It was very important for us.

"We started with three away games, three defeats. It was a must-win game. I was pleased with the way we played. Even if we didn't win the game I could say nothing to the lads, they gave everything.

"We played good. It wasn't a nice performance but it was a top performance in all other stuff, in the second balls, in determination, in closing them down, in getting the corners and free-kicks and all that. We totally deserved it."
Opta facts

West Ham scored twice in the game, as many as in their previous four home league games combined.
Huddersfield are the last team in this season's Premier League to concede a goal, after 342 minutes of action
The Hammers have now kept four clean sheets in their last five top-flight home games.
Andre Ayew has been directly involved in four goals in his last five Premier League games (a goal and assist v Huddersfield and a goal and assist v Burnley last May).
Andy Carroll won 13 aerial duels in the game, the most of any player in a Premier League game this season.
Joe Hart registered a clean sheet for the first time in his last 23 league games.
