Default Hatton v Malignaggi...Sunday morning.

Hatton goes back to the same ring where just over a year ago he lost his unbeaten record to Floyd Mayweather when he was knocked out in the 10th round.

Since then he has had one fight ...a rather laboured points win over non puncher Juan Lazcano who did floor Hatton in the 10th but was never going to get a decision in Hattons back yard.

Hatton then split with his life long trainer and is now under the wing of Floyd Mayweather snr.

.Mayweather started his trainers career in his sons corner until a arguement between the two spelt not only the parting in their working relationship but also in their personal lives...

Now Hatton goes back to defend his Light welterweight belt against Paul Malignaggi an Italian American brought up on the tough streets of New York.

Malignaggi brings to the fight a great record of only one defeat in over 30 contests and that was to the great Miguel Cotto who although knocking Malignaggi down in round three and breaking his jaw couldnt stop the fight going the distance.

Malignaggi is a very light puncher with less the 6 knock outs on his record but is very quick and throws a lot of punches and as shown in the Cotto fight has a warriors heart.

Hatton is taking no chamces here and has been in Vegas for five weeks fine tuning preperations and he knows that a defeat early Sunday morning our time basically ends his career...

This im sure will be a close fight and the further it goes the better Mallignaggis chances are....If Hatton can get to him within the first 4 or 5 rounds then Hatton should prevail ...but if Malignaggi can weather the early onslaught and take Hatton into the middle/ later rounds the belt could be staying the other side of the pond.....

My fancy for this fight is..

Hatton to win within rounds one to five...

Maloiginaggi to win on late stoppage (10-12) or a points decision..

The fight is ment to start around 3.30am

I will post a few links on Saturday for anyone who wants to see it...

this is a hell of a fight to choose between if you ask me on 1 hand hatton needs this fight to further his career but on the other hand his new coach may of changed his style too much mayweather senior is renowned for getting fighters to box text book style but in my opinion if hatton goes this way it will slow him down to much and i fear if this happens he will be struggling to win this come the later rounds malignaggi is a quick puncher and this could be ricky's downfall if he doesn't keep his speed up

on the other hand my heart says ricky wouldn't of changed style too much and will be too fast for the yank i hope i'm right in this

my bets on this fight are hatton rounds 7,8,9, 8-1 and hatton rounds 10,11,12 11-1 i got it right last time just hope i'm right again but wouldn't advise too big a bet on this it literary is a tough one to call

Default Yes have to agree...

Im not to sure that Mayweather is the right man for the job here...i dont think changing trainers so late in a career is the right move maybe just a knee jerk reaction to the defeat and the sloopy performance in his last fight..

Now lets be honest here...Hatton would never have beaten Mayweather its not a case of tactics etc its a case of him not being good enough..

Lots of fighters have changed trainers and some three or four times...I remember the conversation after Benn lost to Watson about training fighters... Brian Lynch had taken Benn from the amateurs right up to be the comenwealth champion and Lynch's training methods had always worked and made Benn into the most popular and sucsessful fighter of those times...

But of course after the Watson defeat people like Ambrose Mendy and Frank Maloney were looking for a scapegoat to blame for what was a terrible performance ...and of course Lynch was the man they blamed..

Now i was there on the Sunday when Benns orders were to box his way into the fight cut down the ring and DONT expend too much energy in the first three or four rounds......Well that fell on deaf ears and Benn came out trying to blast Watson out early and then ran out of gas and was knocked out by a jab in the 6th....

Taking him to Vic Andretti in the states was more luck then good management and of course we all know he won the WBO title there beating Doug De Witt before losing on to Eubanks in his first fight back here in England.

Anyway back to tonights fight it wouldnt suprise me if after a couple of rounds if things are not going to plan we will see Hatton revert to the old style that got him to the top of the tree and all Mayweathers new plans will go out of the window..

As i said in the earlier post Mallignaggi is a lightish puncher but Hatton struggles to get down to this weight and looks very tight at it ...This could prove a problem as at this weight Hatton has been prone to very bad cuts and i think that in a long fight this may come back to haunt him towards the later rounds and could lead to his downfall...

My earlier prediction still stands and im sure the fight will live upto expectations and will have a few twists before the winner is announced...

I will post a couple of links later today....

Default Nice one Lee..

Unfortunatly i fell asleep at 3am and missed it...

By all accounts the fight should not of been stopped but the corner threw in the towel.........

Hatton looked good but it was said that he fought a little like he used to and nothing much had changed....
