Default Legend

As a child growing up in Ipswich, it was hard not to be effected by the charisma of this true Gent.

There was an aura around the guy, and even though he had a tough job, he still had time to talk to us kids.

Sir Bobby is and will be forever a legend in these parts

Rest in Peace

Default Rip Sir Bobby...

I was fortunate and privalidged enough to see The Great Ipswich teams that Sir Bobby sent out....

I was about 7 when i first went to Ipswich with my Mum and Dad and my little stool to see over Churchmans wall.....

We hardly missed a home game for 12 years and for the last nine were season ticket holders in the Portman Stand.

My dad spoke to Bobby on many occasions and still has the letter he got from him thanking him for his support when Bobby was going through a slightly rough patch at the club....

To build a team to challenge on many occasions for the title and also picking up the FA Cup and UEFA Cup along the way with the small resources he had in my opinion makes him one of the best managers ever and after leaving Ipswich took England to within a penalty of a world cup final....

He also won cups and titles in Portugal...Holland and Spain (Jose Mourhinio as back room staff)

He finished his career in the North east with his home team club Newcastle and got them going forwards in the premier league..

Some of the players he brought especially at Ipswich will always be legends but a couple of young trialists that didnt quite look up to it through Bobbys eyes were.....Paul Gasgoine and Rudd Gullit both told by him that they wouldnt make the grade at Portman Road....

Those european nights will always stick in my memory.....3-0 at home against a Barcelona team with players in like Johan Cruyff , Johhny Rep , Johan Neskines was one and also beating St Ettiene away in France in the quater finals of their UEFA winning season was another especially as the French hadnt lost at home for Five years.....

Many more games now come to mind but when you followed "The Town " under Sir Bob entertainment was gauranteed....

One of the very few managers whos death will be moarned in many countries.....

Thanks for the memories Sir Bobby.....RIP
