KINDA READY, winner of the Derby last year, will be unable to defend his crown in the williamhill.com-sponsored premier Classic after failing to recover from an injury he sustained in a Doncaster trial a week before the Betfair Trainers’ Championship last month.
Trainer Mark Wallis said yesterday: “He injured the outside joint of an off-hind. There is damage to the ligament and it has not healed in time for us to prepare him properly for the Derby. “Basically, we’ve run out of time with the dog. The owners are understandably gutted. They enjoyed such a good experience last year and Kinda Ready had come back so well this year with an impressive win at Monmore. “All his trials were exemplary, too. He seemed as good as ever, and it’s a terrible shame he cannot defend his title. Fortunately it doesn’t seem career-threatening, and I suppose, as he’s a very lightly raced dog, there is a chance he could return to Wimbledon for the 2011 Derby.” ![]()
