Default GOLF Friday-In Boston

With obvious favorite Tiger Woods around 6/4 it may pay to look for some value , so what chances the rest of the field.

A sense of urgency will characterise this week's Deutsche Bank Championship, with pressure mounted on several players to harvest last minute FedExCup points three weeks before a winner is decided.

Bets on a good show from two-time US Open champion Retief Goosen will be well advised because of his paradoxical 86th placing in the FedExCup despite being ranked 17th in the world.

He must break the top 70 to move to the third round at the BMW Championship in Chicago, before somehow skipping up another 40 places for the Coca Cola Tour Championship.

It's a tall order, but expect Goosen to have a hearty crack at it.

He feels as though he has a right to a better position, having won the Coca Cola Championship in 2004 and otherwise finishing fourth or better in the last four years.

Another hot tip is Vijay Singh. Expect odds on him to drop when punters remember his performance last time he missed the cut in two consecutive starts.

That was in 2005, when he went on to post a tie for fourth in the next event, the Tour Championship. He also holds the course record of 61 at TPC Boston, where the Deutsche Bank Championship tees off on Friday.

So my bet will be e/w Vijay Singh, at odds of around 20/1 benny
