Derby quarter finals + betting
Mind The Net impresses with 28.16sec win ..By Jim Cremin (RP)
Going: R1 +20, R2, R3 +10, R4-6 Normal (bowser then went round after R6) R 7, R8 +10 Weather warm and close. Fastest time: Mind The Net 28.16sec Fastest sectional: Pinpoint Finas 4.69, (eliminated heat 8) Tuesday's draw (the Night of Passion marking Wimbledon's 86th anniversary) 1st quarter final 1 Brother John 2 Salad Dodger 3 Aero Nemesis (w) 4 Vanrooney (w) 5 Thatchers Champ (w) 6 Fiery Splendour (w) 2nd quarter final 1 Crokers Champ 2 Sidarian Teejay 3 Blackrose Vic 4 Kincraig Rory (m) 5 Holdem Spy (w) 6 Laughill George (w) 3rd quarter final 1 Ballymac Loch 2 Jaytee Hawaii 3 Metro Jack 4 Jet Stream Duke (m) 5 Mind The Net (m) 6 Ecclestone (w) 4th quarter final 1 Jordans Brianna 2 Droopys Ward 3 Farley Chicken 4 Farloe Trent (w) 5 Roxholme Ted (w) 6 Up To It (w) Heat 1 Thatchers Champ, the rank outsider, pulled off a 25-1 shock, racing clear (4.76) in 28.36sec. Salad Dodger (4.81) flew out for Bruno Berwick but was beaten for pace up by the Paul Young runner who won by over two lengths. Fiery Splendour (4.81) went up fast, then almost lost his footing at the turn when clipped by the leader, but comfortably held third. The remainder were all slow away and never got into it. Hills now make the first two 50-1 for the Derby Result 6-4-5 Heat 2 Jet Stream Duke made all for Kevin Hutton (4.82sec sectional, 28.33sec). It was really race over at the boxes. Blackrose Vic showed good speed (4.87) though was chopped off by the leader at the second. Kincraig Rory put up a nice burst of middle, getting crowded slightly at the third. Airport Captain walked out. Bubbly Gold was outpaced early. Rayvin Lad needed to lead, but didn't. Result 5-2-4 Betting changes from Hills: Jet Stream Duke 50/1 Kincraig Rory 100/1 Blackrose Vic 100/1 Heat 3 Mind The Net justified the confidence of trainer Pat Buckely in style (4.88) picking up leader Jordans Brianna at the third and kicking clear for a three and a half lengths win in 28.16sec. It was a smooth, elegant run and he is coming to hand nicely. He also handled trap three, as predicted by Buckley, well. Vanrooney, baulked wide at the bend stayed on for third. Result 3-1-6 Hills now go Mind The Net 6/1 Jordans Brianna 20/1 Heat 4 Roxholme Ted (4.75) was clinical here for Hayley Keightley, soon clear and winning by over a length in 28.49sec. Paul Young's Droopys Ward (4.94) battled on to dead-heat for second with Ireland's Laughil George (4.84). Take The Crown, agonisingly, missed out by a short-head - he ran well after failing to lead, and now goes for the British-bred race on Derby final night. General Wolf was beaten for pace up. Jaytee Barzelona was slow away and collided with his kennelmate Droopys Ward at the turn. Hills now make Roxholne Ted a 10-1 chance Result 6 dead heat 2/5 Heat 5 Aero Nemesis made it three runs and three wins in the Derby for Mark Wallis. 4.77 and 28.32sec on what looked a slowing track he continues to improve. Ecclestone (4.85) turned second and safely went through. Sidarian Teejay somehow snatched third when seemingly out of it (the inside trio were all slow away) but the others bunched and Droopys Norris and Jaytee Seville missed out by two short heads. Hills now make Aero Nemesis 8-1 Result 5-4-1 Heat 6 Ballymac Loch (4.79) set a hot pace but was eventually worn down close home by Peter Cronin's Metro Jack (4.85) who got up by half a length in 28.54sec. The Scottish Derby form is looking good. Brother John, outpaced early, stayed on for third. Eric Court and El Savador collided at the third bend. Metro Jack is now 16-1 Result 1-3-5 BOWSER WENT ROUND Heat 7 Jaytee Hawaii (4.79) took off early here, but weakened coming home to allow the McNair's Farley Chicken (4.90) to battle through on the rails for a neck win in 28.35sec. Wimbledon's Up To It (4.99) grabbed second. He started slowly but showed a good burst to go second down the back. The others were slow away, Benkaat Nero clipped the fence at the turn. Farley Chicken is now 40-1. Up To It 100-1. Result 1-5-4 Heat 8 Holdem Spy had a bunched race run to suit him (4.89) sectional, edging ahead at the third bend. Crokers Champ (4.71) went up fast and collided with fast starting Pinpoint Finas and then kicked clear down the back - but was never far enough ahead. He battled back, going down by a head to the 28.39sec winner. Farloe Trent, who showed good early (4.75) went through third as El Flutter missed out by a short head. Hills make Holdem Spy 7-1, with Crokers Champ 10s Result 5-1-6 Hills full show Mind The Net 6/1 Holdem Spy 7/1 Vanrooney 7/1 Aero Nemesis 8/1 Fiery Splendour 8/1 Crokers Champ 10/1 Roxholme Ted 10/1 Brother John 16/1 Metro Jack 16/1 Jordans Brianna 20/1 Ecclestone 25/1 Jaytee Hawaii 33/1 Sidarian Teejay 33/1 Droopys Ward 40/1 Farley Chicken 40/1 Farloe Trent 50/1 Jet Stream Duke 50/1 Laughil George 50/1 Salad Dodger 50/1 Thatchers Champ 50/1 Ballymac Loch 100/1 Blackrose Vic 100/1 Kincraig Rory 100/1 Up To It 100/1 There were four vacant traps in the third round following the earlier withdrawal of Westmead Chris (off colour).

Tonights run down
Sporting Life's run down on tonights races
We (SL) run the rule over Tuesday's greyhounds meetings and pick out our best bets for the action. BAGS BEST BET: Jordans Brianna (T1, 9.04 Wimbledon) TODAY'S NAP: Aero Nemesis (T3, 8.19 Wimbledon) TODAY'S TREBLE: Ecclestone (T6, 8.49 Wimbledon) It will be a special night at Wimbledon this evening as not only does the William Hill Greyhound Derby reach the quarter-final stage, but the famous old stadium celebrates its 86-year anniversary. Billed as the 'Night Of Passion', it is hoped the meeting can help save greyhound racing's last remaining track in London from demolition - and pave the way for a brand new multi-million pounds redevelopment of the SW17 site. The '1928 Night Of Passion' follows February's 'Show Of Passion' at City Hall, London, in which hundreds of greyhound racing fans from Britain and Ireland - and a number of the greyhounds themselves - handed a letter to Mayor Boris Johnson asking for his continued support for greyhound racing in London. The 'We Want Wimbledon' campaign has seen local residents in Merton join forces with greyhound racing enthusiasts in support of Irish businessman Paschal Taggart's plans to buy the site and make the stadium the centrepiece of a new multi-leisure and housing redevelopment. The action on the track has been red-hot during the Derby so far and the expected bumper crowd is in for a treat tonight, with four high-class quarters and a fantastic support card, live on SIS and Sky Sports. Aero Nemesis (T3) is one of only two unbeaten dogs in the competition and he is fancied to do the business again at 8.19. Mark Wallis' unexposed speedster once again flew to the corner when scoring in style on Saturday and his times are improving with each round, clocking a smart 28.32 last time out. The wide seed goes from trap three for the first time, which might put many off, but he has the slow-starting Vanrooney to his immediate right and can roar into a first-bend lead with a level break, helped by the possibility of fellow early birds Thatches Champ and Fiery Splendour holding each other up out wide. Ecclestone (T6) caught the eye when chasing Aero Nemesis home at the weekend and looks the value option in the 8.49. Breaking from an unfamiliar trap four, the Irish raider received a bump when looking to go round the first corner in a good position and then had a coming-together with Droopys Norris down the back straight. Paul Hennessy's inmate stayed on well to get within just over two lengths of the winner and should turn prominently now back in the striped jacket. Mind The Net will be all the rage for the race following his impressive victory at the weekend, but he had everything his own way that night and needs luck early doors, as highlighted by his second-place finishes in the opening two rounds. Roxholme Ted bids to maintain his 100 per cent record at 9.04, but may find fellow wide Farloe Trent a tricky obstacle on his inside. That rival will be tough to clear if repeating his 4.75 sectional from Saturday and that could let in Jordans Brianna (T1), who is very well drawn in red inside a couple of sleepers. _________________________ Bennys e/way yankee is 8 19 Fiery Splendour (T6) .. 9/4 8 34 Sidarian Teejay (T2) .. 7/1 8 49 Ecclestone ......(T6) .. 5/1 9 04 Roxholme Ted (T5) ..11/10 My nap of the night is in the 9 04 Roxholme Ted
