Premier League round-up: Sigurdsson stunner, Bournemouth hit four & Spurs struggle against Cardiff (October 06, 2018)
Bournemouth enjoyed their biggest ever away win while Gylfi Sigurdsson's stunner sank Leicester and Tottenham struggled against Cardiff. Premier League results Burnley 1-1 Huddersfield Town Crystal Palace 0-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers Leicester City 1-2 Everton Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Cardiff City Watford 0-4 Bournemouth Man Utd 3 - 2 Newcastle Bournemouth moved up into fifth place in the Premier League by handing out a surprise 4-0 thrashing to ten-man Watford at Vicarage Road. David Brooks scored for the second game running after just 14 minutes before the pivotal piece of action came just after the half-hour mark when Christian Kabasele was given a second yellow card after conceding a penalty by bringing down Joshua King. King fired in the penalty and added a second just before the break to send the Cherries in at half time 3-0 up. Callum Wilson added a fourth just two minutes after the restart but that was the end of the scoring as Bournemouth enjoyed their biggest ever away win in the Premier League. Leicester City 1-2 Everton Gylfi Sigurdsson's 50th Premier League goal was one to remember as he fired in a brilliant winner for Everton against ten-man Leicester at the King Power Stadium. Richarlison put the Toffees ahead of with his fourth goal of the season after just seven minutes before birthday boy Ricardo Pereira celebrated by scoring his first Leicester goal to level it up five minutes before the break. Wes Morgan was sent off for the second time in three games just after the hour mark before Sigurdsson lashed in a fine winner on 77 minutes to put Everton level on points with Leicester in tenth. Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff City Eric Dier scored a rare goal for Tottenham after just eight minutes in what looked like being a comfortable home win against Cardiff at Wembley, but it turned out to be hard going for the hosts. Neil Warnock’s side would not just roll over, even when going down to ten men with Joe Ralls send off for a foul on Lucas Moura – with the Welsh side even hitting the Spurs post at one stage. Spurs got over the line in the end though to move up into third place in the table with Chelsea playing on Sunday. Crystal Palace 0-1 Wolves Wolves bagged a fourth win of the season to continue their impressive march up the table – while Crystal Palace has failed to score in any of their four home games in the Premier League this season. For all of the praise Nuno Espirito Santos’ side has been getting for their attacking play, their defence got them the three points at Selhurst Park as they grabbed a clean sheet after an unlikely goal from Matt Doherty. Roy Hodgson’s Eagles have 67 percent possession and had five shots on target but their lack of goals cost them again as they fell to a fifth defeat of the season. Burnley 1-1 Huddersfield Town Huddersfield picked up just their third point of the season as they came from behind to grab a draw with Burnley at Turf Moor - although again David Wagner's side had chances to win the game. The Terriers have had trouble scoring goals all season so when Sam Vokes gave the Clarets a 20th-minute lead you feared the worst for the visitors. Christopher Schindler scored Huddersfield's fourth goal of the season on 66 minutes and although both sides had chances to win it both had to settle for a point in the end - which keeps Huddersfield in the bottom three. Man Utd 3 - 2 Newcastle Manchester United came from 2-0 down at half time to pinch a 3-2 win over Newcastle and ease some of the pressure on under-fire manager Jose Mourinho. A last-minute header from Alexis Sanchez grabbed all three points for United after Kenedy and Yoshinori Muto had stunned Old Trafford by putting Newcastle 2-0 up at the break. With tension in the air, Juan Mata pulled a goal back on 70 minutes and Anthony Martial levelled before Sanchez sealed a dramatic victory with his late header.
