Premier League round-up: Huddersfield finally win again; Leicester beat Brighton (February 26, 2019)

A review of the latest round of Premier League games, where Huddersfield finally won again thanks to a last-minute goal.

Huddersfield 1-0 Wolves

Steve Mounie struck a stoppage-time winner as Huddersfield beat Wolves 1-0 to clinch their first Premier League win in three months.

Mounie forced home a rebound in the first minute of time added on to halt the Terriers' run of five straight defeats and secure them just their third win of the season.

Huddersfield, who had taken only one point from their previous 14 matches, also secured their first points under boss Jan Siewert.

Town fans will wish they could play Wolves every week as their last win, on November 25, was at Molineux.

Cardiff 0-3 Everton

Everton eased the pressure on manager Marco Silva as Gylfi Sigurdsson scored twice and Dominic Calvert-Lewin added another in a 3-0 win at Cardiff.

Sigurdsson started the game with boos ringing in his ears from the home crowd given his three-year spell at Cardiff's rivals Swansea.

But the Iceland international ended the night - his first return to Wales following his £45million move to Everton in August 2017 - with his name being sung loudly by the away fans after smart strikes in the 41st and 66th minutes.

Calvert-Lewin added a third in stoppage time when he raced on to a through-ball from the excellent Idrissa Gueye.

Cardiff were as poor as Everton were competent and their failure to manage one on-target attempt will add to their growing relegation fears, especially as six of their final 10 games are away from home and the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and the two Manchester clubs remain on their itinerary.

Leicester 2-1 Brighton

Leicester saw off battling Brighton to kick-start the Brendan Rodgers era with victory.

Demarai Gray and Jamie Vardy earned the Foxes a 2-1 win, and first since New Year's Day, despite the visitors' dogged persistence.

Glenn Murray's awful miss let Leicester off the hook at 1-0 and, while Davy Propper pulled a goal back, Brighton could not recover.

Rodgers, who signed a three-and-a-half-year deal after joining from Celtic before the game, watched from the stands and would have been encouraged with what he saw.

Leicester had lost seven of their previous nine outings but dug in against a determined Brighton side to rise to 11th.

The Seagulls, meanwhile, remain in relegation danger and sit just three points above the drop zone.

Newcastle 2-0 Burnley

Sean Longstaff's first Premier League goal helped Newcastle secure a fourth successive win at St James' Park to further ease their relegation fears and end Burnley's unbeaten run.

The midfielder, whose form in recent weeks has seen him tipped to receive an England Under-21 call-up, struck after defender Fabian Schar had blasted home the opener from distance to hand the Magpies a 2-0 win to go with the one they collected against Huddersfield at the weekend.

That left Rafael Benitez's men on 31 points, moving them above their opponents, who had not lost in eight league outings in 2019 before the trip to Tyneside, and perhaps more importantly within touching distance of safety.

They were good value for the points too on a night when the Clarets failed to hit the heights they scaled in beating Tottenham at the weekend.
