Liverpool make Champions League as Salah wins Golden Boot, Man City make 100 points & Swansea go down


Mohamed Salah broke the Premier League scoring record as Liverpool made the Champions League as Chelsea missed out and Swansea went down on the final day of the season.

Salah made it 32 for the season in Liverpool's comfortable victory over Brighton at Anfield, meaning Chelsea could not catch them in any case, although Antonio Conte's men were hugely disappointing in their 3-0 defeat at Newcastle.

The Swansea miracle was never really on and they lost at home to Stoke just for good measure, meaning Southampton could afford to lose 1-0 to champions Manchester City - who scored in the dying moments at St Mary's to see Pep Guadriola's side from reaching 100 points.

Tottenham came from 3-1 down to beat Leicester 5-4 in a pulsating game at Wembley to confirm third place, while Arsene Wenger ended his time as Arsenal boss with a win at Huddersfield.

Final Premier League games review

Liverpool 4-0 Brighton

Jurgen Klopp started Dominic Solanke as well as his fab three as Liverpool left in until the final day to confirm Champions League football for next season, and his side responded with a dominant display over Brighton at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah scored his 32nd Premier League goal of the season, breaking the record for a 38-match campaign, to put his side 1-0 up.

The Egyptian collected the ball from Solanke and slotted home to move a step closer to claiming the Golden Boot. Dejan Lovren headed home dominant Liverpool's second.

Solanke ended his long wait for his first Liverpool goal, latching on to a Salah pass and blasting home his side's third of the game.

Andy Robertson scored a fourth for Liverpool in the 85th minute as Liverpool's victory sealed fourth place and a spot in next season's Champions League.

Newcastle 3-0 Chelsea

Antonio Conte made eight changes as he looked for a final-day victory at Newcastle to give Chelsea a chance of Champions League qualification, but his big guns blew as they were outplayed by former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez's Newcastle..

Newcastle went in front in the 23rd minute, Dwight Gayle heading the ball home after Courtois clawed out Jacob Murphy's looping effort.

The Magpies doubled their lead through Ayoze Perez, who touched Jonjo Shelvey's shot past Courtois. It got better for Newcastle and Perez in the 63rd minute as the Spaniard made it 3-0.

Southampton 0-1 Manchester City

Champions Manchester City reached 100 Premier League points with a dramatic 1-0 win over Southampton at St Mary's coming in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Gabriel Jesus' stoppage-time goal took City to the landmark total after Saints had looked set to frustrate them.

Defeat was not costly for the hosts, who beat the drop thanks to Swansea's loss to Stoke.

Tottenham 5-4 Leicester

Tottenham and Leicester had little to play for but served up hat could be the game of the season as Spurs signed off from Wembley with a nine-goal thriller.

Spurs got off to the worst possible start as Jamie Vardy put the visitors in front in the fourth minute by converting a Riyad Mahrez cross. But Kane equalised four minutes after being released on goal by Lucas.

Mahrez restored Leicester's lead in the 16th minute, and Iheanacho rifled Leicester further in front from 20 yards in the 47th minute, but just two minutes later Spurs were back in it again as Erik Lamela tapped home following a fine move.

And Tottenham were level in the 53rd minute when Lamela's deflected effort found the net, before Lamela completed the Spurs comeback by tapping home after combining with Kyle Walker-Peters.

It was not a hat-trick goal, though, as Spurs' third went down as a Christian Fuchs own goal.Vardy made it 4-4 after being set up by Mahrez.

Kane put Tottenham back in front a 5-4 with a stunning individual effort, cutting inside on to his right foot before shaping a curling shot into the far corner of the net.

Manchester United 1-0 Watford

Manchester United finished their season in typical Jose Mourinho style with a tight 1-0 win over Watford in Michael Carrick's final game of his career.

The veteran midfielder, who is retiring and taking up a coaching role at the end of the season, was recalled by manager Jose Mourinho for the final home game of the season against Watford.

Marcus Rashford put United in front, tapping home from Juan Mata's square ball after a fine Carrick pass had launched the attack.

Carrick was substituted to a huge reception with six minutes remaining, being replaced by Paul Pogba.

Huddersfield 0-1 Arsenal

Arsene Wenger was given a guard of honour by both Arsenal and Huddersfield players before his last game in charge at the John Smith's Stadium.

Wenger, taking charge of his final game as Arsenal manager, was given a rousing reception by both sets of fans in a carnival atmosphere.

Then, after 22 minutes, the entire stadium rose as one to applaud Wenger - marking his 22 year-tenure - with chants of "there's only one Arsene Wenger" also springing up throughout the pockets of home support as well as the entire away end.

The Frenchman stood up in his technical area to wave back to those who were showing their respects to his achievements.

Wenger was celebrating when January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put the Gunners ahead in the 38th minute, sliding in to convert Aaron Ramsey's cross.

Swansea 1-2 Stoke

Swansea's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed as Stoke won 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium.

Andy King gave Swansea an early lead, but Badou Ndiaye and Peter Crouch scored before half-time to give Stoke only their second victory since Paul Lambert took charge in January.

Stoke could even afford the luxury of Xherdan Shaqiri failing to convert a second-half penalty, and the two clubs will next meet in the Sky Bet Championship.

Swansea's survival hopes had rested on the longest of long shots, victory coupled by a Southampton defeat to Manchester City and a 10-goal swing in the process.

Burnley 1-2 Bournemouth

Bournemouth gatecrashed Burnley's European party with a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor.

A sell-out home crowd soaked up the spring sunshine and looked set to celebrate a final win of the Premier League campaign when Chris Wood gave the Clarets the lead in the 39th minute.

But Bournemouth deserved the equaliser given to them by a fine Josh King effort 16 minutes from time and snatched all three points in added time when Kevin Long's mistake was punished by substitute Callum Wilson.

But even that could not spoil the mood of the Burnley fans, who will see their team in action next on July 26 in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

Crystal Palace 2-0 West Brom

Roy Hodgson was able to savour his achievement at keeping Crystal Palace in the Premier League as West Brom sade farewell to the top flight despite Darren Moore's best efforts.

Wilfried Zaha put Palace in front after 70 minute, steering home a Patrick van Aanholt cross.

Van Aanholt went from provider to scorer to put Hodgson's side two goals to the good.

West Ham 3-1 Everton

West Ham looked set to end the season on a high as they led 2-0 thanks to goals from Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic, whose effort really should have been kept out by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Everton pulled one back through Oumar Niasse, who pounced after the hosts failed to deal with a corner.

Lanzini re-established West Ham's two-goal cushion with a curling effort beyond Pickford.
