Premier League round-up: Chelsea held by Leicester (January 13th)

A review of Saturday's action in the Premier League, where there was no shortage of controversy before Spurs rounded things off with an easy win.

Premier League review

Chelsea endured their third successive 0-0 draw as 10-man Leicester earned a deserved point at Stamford Bridge.

Claude Puel's side were on top for much of the game until Ben Chillwell was dismissed after a foul with 68 minutes on the clock.

N'Golo Kante went close from distance soon after as Chelsea at last threatened, particularly from midfield, but Leicester held firm.

Tottenham closed the gap on third-placed Chelsea with a convincing 4-0 victory over Everton.

Harry Kane's grip on the Golden Boot tightened with a brace, preceded by an opening tap-in goal for Son Heung-min and followed by a fine team goal which Christian Eriksen scored.

Everton's new signing Cenk Tosun was a peripheral figure as his side failed to conjure a single shot on target in what amounted to little more than a training-ground stroll for the home side.

Spurs stay fifth, behind fourth-placed Liverpool on goals scored; they will move ahead of the Reds if they lose to Manchester City on Sunday.

Southampton spurned a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw at Watford.

James Ward-Prowse scored twice in the first half, but Andre Gray's goal got Watford back into the game before Abdoulaye Doucoure's strike in the final minute of regular time.

There was a strong suspicion of handball from Doucoure but, with no VAR, Watford were awarded the goal.

The spoils were also shared between Newcastle and Swansea, as the hosts came from behind to secure a point in a 1-1 draw.

After Jordan Ayew's goal had been cancelled out by Joselu, Swansea had a chance to steal it late on but it was honours even between two sides threatened by relegation.

The visitors will feel hard-done-by, having also had a first-half penalty appeal turned down.

Bakary Sako scored for the second time in a week to earn Crystal Palace a 1-0 victory over Burnley.

Alan Pardew's wait for a Premier League ended as West Brom beat Brighton 2-0.

The Baggies had their defenders to thank as Jonny Evans and Craig Dawson headed the goals for their first top-flight victory since August 19.

Finally, West Ham produced arguably their most impressive display of the season to beat Huddersfield 4-1.

Goals from Mark Noble, Marko Arnautovic and a brace from Manuel Lanzini saw the visitors continue their improved form under David Moyes, who was left to celebrate his 200th Premier League win.

Huddersfield had drawn level just before half-time when Joe Lolley curled home from 18 yards, but were behind again just 11 seconds after the restart when Arnautovic latched onto a flick by Cheikhou Kouyate.

Lanzini wrapped up the points with a well-crafted third goal on 58 minutes and swiftly added a fourth.
