Talking Wycombe and Coventry into the semi finals

Coventry and Wycombe progress - - (January 24th 2017)

A review of Tuesday night's action in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Reice Charles-Cook was Coventry's hero as the Sky Blues advanced to the Checkatrade Trophy semi-finals after beating Swansea Under-23s 4-2 on penalties.

The Coventry goalkeeper saved two spot-kicks from Botti Biabi and Ryan Blair to break young Swans' hearts after the game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Oli McBurnie's successful 70th-minute penalty, his fifth goal in the Checkatrade Trophy this season, looked to have been enough to ensure Cameron Toshack's men remained the only development side left in the competition.

But Jordan Willis' headed equaliser five minutes from time took the game to penalties where Russell Slade's men won it.

Wycombe substitutes Adebayo Akinfenwa and Scott Kashket sent Wanderers into the semi-finals with two late goals in a thrilling 2-1 win at Mansfield.

The Stags were sitting pretty with 18 minutes to go thanks to a Matt Green penalty, but a 66th-minute double substitution did the trick for Wycombe.

Kashket pounced on a mistake by home keeper Jake Kean to level before Akinfenwa notched an 81st-minute winner to make it 16 games unbeaten for the Chairboys.

Oxford v Bradford and Luton v Yeovil were both postponed and will be played next Tuesday on January 31.
