Arsenal 0-3 Manchester City:

Premier League leaders increase pressure on Gunners manager Arsene Wenger (March 01 2018 )

Four days after brushing aside the Gunners by the same scoreline in the Carabao Cup final, City scored three times in a devastating first-half display through Bernardo Silva, David Silva and the brilliant Leroy Sane.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a penalty saved by Ederson early in the second half, but Arsene Wenger's side were once again thoroughly outplayed, with the home fans making their displeasure felt.

Manchester City are 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Pep Guardiola's side only require five more wins to make sure of top spot in England's top-flight.

Bernardo Silva revealed Manchester City were determined there would be no let-up after their Carabao Cup success.

"It was a good day for us, especially in the first half," he said on Sky Sports. "We were very focused and very concentrated."

Leroy Sane paid tribute to coach Pep Guardiola for the part he has played in the development of this City team.

"I improve so much with him," the German forward said. "I think every player in our squad can tell you that."

Guardiola said: "It was so important today, so so important. We have another step forward. With every game we win, it (the title) is closer."

The City boss praised his side's ruthlessness in front of goal, saying: "Three or four shots on target and we scored three goals."

He also complimented his goalkeeper Ederson, saying his penalty save was "outstanding".

Guardiola was still not totally satisfied, though, saying the way his team started the second half was "very poor".

Arsene Wenger admitted his team was short on confidence and struggling.

"I think it was a game with a team of top quality and full of confidence against us who were low on confidence," he said.

"I knew before the game the first half would be difficult for us after what happened on Sunday and we needed at least to be level at half-time.

"They took advantage of our lack of confidence.

"We're going through a difficult period, they're going through a period where all goes well for them."

Wenger also blamed his side's defending for the City goals.

"I don't want to take anything way from their individual quality, but it was soft defending on our side," he said.
