Bayern Munich 1-2 Real Madrid: Report and betting reaction (April 25 2018)

Real Madrid claimed a 2-1 advantage in the away leg of their Champions League semi-final clash with Bayern Munich.

Holders Madrid started sluggishly and fell behind inside the half-hour mark after wing-back Joshua Kimmich’s strike appeared to catch Keylor Navas off guard, his right-foot drive beating the goalkeeper at his near post.

The Spanish giants, winners of three of the last four editions of Europe’s premiere competition, including the last two in Milan and Cardiff, responded like champions and went into the break level after Marcelo’s low, 44th-minute strike from the edge of the area arrowed its way into the bottom corner.

Bayern continued to dominate possession for much of the second period but gifted Real an opportunity following a defensive mix-up after 57 minutes and Marco Asensio - brought on at half-time by Zidane - tucked away the chance with a clip over the onrushing Sven Ulreich.

The remaining 30 minutes played out largely without incident and although Thomas Muller was denied from close range and Bayern's leading marksman Robert Lewandowski squandered his one clear-cut chance late on, the Allianz Arena was subdued as the final whistle blew.

Real's sixth consecutive win over Bayern means the German champions must score at least twice and overcome the away goals advantage to have any hope of denying 12-time European champions Real's progress to next month's final in Kiev.

There was an extra sting in the tail for the recently-crowned German champions, with Arjen Robben forced off after just eight minutes through injury, and Jerome Boateng following him down the tunnel in the first half after appearing to suffer a groin problem.

The return leg will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu next Tuesday evening, with the aggregate winners facing either Liverpool (11/8) or Roma (50/1), who clash on Wednesday with the Premier League side 5-2 up from an exhilarating game at Anfield earlier this week.
