Default Looking bleak for Dicky (Friday 2nd Oct)

Advocaat axe gamble

There's been a considerable gamble on Dick Advocaat losing his job at Sunderland.

The Dutchman kept the Black Cats up in remarkable fashion last season but has been unable to prevent the team slipping to the foot of the Premier League table early in the current campaign.

They have yet to win a game and have just two points from their opening seven matches, having conceded a league-high 16 goals.

On Friday - a day before his side faces West Ham at the Stadium of Light - Advocaat has been heavily backed in the 'next Premier League manager to lose his job' market.

"He's been heavily backed today as it's looking extremely likely that he could face the axe if Sunderland fail to win this weekend."

Hill's Joe Crilly added: "Dick Advocaat has not looked a happy bunny since the start of the season and we have taken wagers of up to £1,000, placed at 4/5, in Sunderland on him being the first out."

Crilly's firm go 1/3 with others such as Ladbrokes and Betfair Sportsbook even shorter at 1/4.

As a result of the gamble, Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers, who himself faces a big game this weekend when the Reds take on Everton, has been pushed out to around the 3/1 mark and it's 14/1 bar.

Sunderland are 21/10 to beat West Ham on Saturday, with the Hammers 7/5 shots.
